M13 is named after the brightest star cluster in the northern sky, full of remarkable individual stars that create something truly greater than the sum of its parts.

That idea has guided us since day one. We believe extraordinary companies are built by extraordinary people a belief that shapes how we invest, how we partner with founders and how we build our community. Because we're brighter together.

M13 Managing Partner @kalomarNYC was previously the COO of @digitalocean, where he helped scale the business from first product over six years and prepared it for its IPO.

DigitalOcean entered a market dominated by AWS, which primarily served executive buyers. Developers were Ocean built around their needs, prioritizing simplicity, usability and transparent pricing.

That approach still applies to infrastructure startups competing with hyperscalers, he shared with Amanda Smith at AI ODYSSEY. If you understand the giants in a category and where their blind spots or limitations are, you can build to solve those and corner a valuable piece of the market.

More from Karl on competing with giants, building a company instead of a feature, the AI investments to watch, and where the long-term value is in AI: aiodyssey.io/p/this-founder…

Our vision at @skyfallai is to make intelligence as affordable and ubiquitous as electricity.

With SKY-001, we're one step closer to that mission. Here's a side-by-side comparison of how fast our World Models are compared to frontier LLMs in CAD. LLMs are too slow so we had to h 😂.

Electricity became ubiquitous because it was both cheap and fast enough to be woven into every tool and process without a second thought. When engineering design generation becomes 1000x faster, it transforms into a real-time utility for the entire human race.

What happens when AI moves off the screen and into the physical world?

At our latest Future Perfect in San Francisco, cohosted with @redglassvc and @rhobusiness, we gathered robotics founders and investors to explore what it takes to turn breakthroughs in hardware and AI into ur robotics panel with @brentmurri, @bznotes, @FoundryRobotics' @adarshkulkarni and @nvidia's Ben Levin tackled the realities of building in the physical world. @latifperacha and @ring founder Jamie Siminoff took on the challenge of building tech before the market is ready.

We also made room for a conversation about storytelling, a skill that doesn't always come naturally to technical founders but becomes essential when you're trying to win customers, recruit talent and earn trust years before commercialization. It's part of how M13 helps founders build businesses, not just technology.

Some of the best conversations happen spontaneously and offstage. Hardware pioneers like Jamie and @Jawbone's @hosain swapped ideas with the next generation of builders, including Velodex Robotics founders Parker Owan and Jeff Hardy and Emanate founder @kiaranirghin, alongside entrepreneurs like @AlexYancher, who sold @PassportGlobal1, and investors like @McCreadieWill.

That's what our gatherings do: bring together the people building what's next and giving them more reasons to know one another. Thank you for joining us, and see you next time!

There’s no single path to entrepreneurship. Some founders bring years of experience solving hard problems from inside the world's most complex institutions.

Before founding @CatCryptoLabs, @LiliCATLabs spent years at the DEA pioneering cryptocurrency investigations and helping rld's largest dark web marketplaces.

Founders like Lili bring deep operational experience and hard earned insights to problems they're building to solve. Proud to partner with her and the CAT Labs team as they bring their expertise to enterprise cybersecurity.

Hosted a pretty neat Physical AI event in SF today with our friends from @M13Company and @rhobusiness.

Foundry’s @adarshkulkarn and NVIDIA’s Ben Levin were panelists with me.

Also hung out with consumer hardware OGs, @hosain (Jawbone) and @JamieSiminoff (Ring).

Proud of @redglassvc team!

World models are the future for the immense surface areas of the physical world. We are proud to back @spisallyouneed as he builds for the brave new industrial world. Impressive performance vs the frontier models and a lot more news to come.
Introducing SKY-001, the first Engineering World Model.
On CAD and BIM tasks, it beats GPT-6 Astra and every frontier model we tested:

-> 51-125x faster
- > 150-210x cheaper
-> Higher IOU than all frontier models

SKY-001 lets you dream a physical object before you build it.

18 months ofm out of Maluuba's deep learning lab (acq. by @MSRResearch).

The first ‘AI General Engineer’ will be the backbone for Autonomous Manufacturing.

World models aren't just for robots. @skyfallai is showing how they can transform engineering itself with faster, cheaper and more accurate results.

The bigger ambition? Enterprises that can design, build and operate autonomously. Proud to support this team. @spisallyouneed @morgan_blumberg

New M13 portfolio company @rimelabs is building AI that people actually want to talk to. According to founder @lilyjclifford, the future of voice AI is not just generating realistic speech, it’s creating conversations that understand context, respond naturally, and help r customer experiences.

Below, she shares how Rime just replaced a $200,000 SaaS contract with a product one of their engineers built in a month.

Tune into the full Flywheel episode for an in-depth conversation with Lily and M13 partner @morgan_blumberg on the future of voice AI, why Rime trains its models on real conversations instead of scripted speech, and why enterprise developers increasingly need flexible AI building blocks rather than one-size-fits-all voice applications.

Join M13 Managing Partner @kalomarNYC for three panels on Thursday at @TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco:

10:10am, Builders Stage: M&A Is Now an Early-Stage Strategy
Karl, @LindseyMignano and Ryan Yi talk with TechCrunch’s Sean O'Kane about why founders should think about acquect specifics on the product and partnership choices that make a company easy to buy.

11:30am, Disrupt Stage: Startup Battlefield final
Karl joins @sbp04, Chi-Hua Chien, @daynagrayson, and @alexavontobel to judge five finalists live. Each gets six minutes to pitch and eight minutes of questions. Watch for the questions that separate a good pitch from a fundable company.

2:50pm, Builders Stage: Ask the Investors
The five judges take audience questions from TechCrunch’s @MTemkin on what gets an investor to yes, including red flags and what they saw in that morning’s pitches. Bring a hard question.

Can’t make it to SF? The Battlefield final streams live on techcrunch.com.

What if the future of security is no alerts at all?

Elizabeth Nammour started on a three-person data security team at Airbnb, trying to track 10 years of data that engineers kept collecting faster than anyone could map—and she built @TeleskopeAI so companies can fix data risk f drowning in alerts.

In this episode of The Flywheel, M13 Managing Partner @kalomarNYC sits down with Elizabeth to break down why AI turned data security into an urgent problem, why knowing about a risk you can't fix leaves you liable for it, and why the next era of security works like a copilot, with humans always in the loop.

If you're a founder, security leader, or operator trying to understand AI data security, DSPM, or why more alerts don't make a company safer, this is your map.

Early-stage investing means making consequential decisions long before you have all the information.

At M13, we’ve built around what we can control: a disciplined investment process for navigating imperfect information and an operating team that helps founders see around corners ial choices that shape what comes next.

Over time, better decisions and a better process give you better odds of finding the outliers that matter.

M13 co-founder @CarterReum talks with @joinallocate's @Samirkaji about the process behind M13 on @VentureUnlocked.

New M13 co @Ultraroboticsco is building the world’s most useful and deployable robots. We're excited to welcome them to our constellation ✨
Robotics has a distribution problem. Today, Ultra is announcing $62M in funding to solve it, including a $50M Series A led by @hiFramework.

We believe that deployment is the bottleneck in robotics.

It’s relatively easy to make a robot look impressive in a controlled harder to put a robot into the open world, make it useful, keep it running, earn the trust of the people working alongside it, and do that over and over and over again.

So that’s what we’re focusing on.
