15 yrs ago @spisallyouneed and I were building our companies side by side @UWVelocity.

His intensity + vision was inspiring and hard to miss.

Then it was an AI lab MSFT bought for $160M.

Now: AI that runs a company autonomously.

Proud to back @skyfallai via @GarageCapital.
Around 15 years ago, Kaheer Suleman and I started Maluuba with the vision of building Universal Turing Machines. Back then, we were one of the pioneer research labs building foundational modules of deep learning and Reinforcement learning with Turing award winners @Yoshua_Bengio ere was no AI hype then, as there is now. Those were the good old days of doing pure scientific research unlike the n+1 research that we see today. Maluuba was later acquired by Microsoft and became @MSFTResearch Canada.

Grounded in that same mission, we're finally ready to introduce @skyfallai to the world after a lot of experimentation in stealth over the last year. We're a frontier neo lab building the first Autonomous Enterprise by moving beyond the current LLM paradigm.

For the last 5 years, the foundational model market has relied on a single paradigm: scaling laws for LLMs - more data, more compute, bigger models. However, the real world is messy and much more complicated. In order to achieve our long term vision, the next generation of AI models requires a different approach. Skyfall is solving the hardest open problems in frontier AI: long-horizon planning, data inefficiency, and brittle performance in dynamic real-world environments.

To achieve the team's vision of a completely autonomous enterprise, the team is developing a next-generation frontier model (Enterprise World Models) using Continual Learning and World Modeling. Enterprise World Models can simulate the multi-layered consequences of strategic business actions. Our approach unlocks a new category in the foundation model market. To prove it, we're introducing Morpheus, a Continual Reinforcement Learning platform for AI researchers.

I'm building this company with the people I trust the most: my longtime friend Kaheer Suleman (prev. Co-Founder of Maluuba) and my brother @omgiamgod (prev. YC founder). Sumit and Kaheer are the first principles thinkers I can trust to go to the end of the world with to achieve the mission impossible together. Together with a stellar team of 25 researchers and engineers, we're pushing a new frontier in AI forward.

We unpacked our long term vision in today’s Forbes feature 🔗- read it to see what we’re building toward. Thank you so much Victor Dey for the interview.

To achieve our goal of enterprise world models, we are soliciting bids to acquire small SaaS startups (up to $1M) and fully automate them. If you’re interested, submit your business here: skyfall.ai/acquisition

Finally, thank you to our investors and advisors for believing in our vision since day one: @Fidelity , @sk121 (@touringcapital), @karam_n and @chrisarsenault (@inovia), @morgan_blumberg (@M13Company ), @stephpalmeri (@NextViewVC ), and @michaellitt and @mmccauley (@GarageCapital ), @jennydhe, @fchollet @NaveenGRao and so many others for supporting us in this journey.

Incredible milestone. Critical. At full scale.

Huge congrats @MattLoszak, @yasir_fission, and the entire @AaloAtomics team - so much hard work to make this a reality.

We @GarageCapital are grateful to be a small part of the journey.

Next: Commercial!!
Very excited to announce that at 12:20am on the 4th of July, Aalo achieved criticality on our first full-scale reactor.

We cut it close, but we pulled it off!!

Working towards this goal with such an incredible group of humans has been the most fulfilling period of my life. This ears in the making.

Last year, Executive Order 14301 called for at least three new reactors to go critical before July 4th, 2026.

As of late last Friday night, that goal has been surpassed!

When the EO was announced, we immediately sat down to figure out what the most ambitious scope would be, while still being potentially achievable by July 4th.

Some of the team proposed doing simplified designs with smaller fuel loads, or building in existing facilities.

One thing was clear: We wouldn't have time to integrate a full-scale sodium heat-removal loop to bring the reactor to its full 30 MWt.

So here’s where we landed:

➡️ We purchased the entire commercial-scale fuel load. This is enough fuel to operate at 30 MWt / 10 MWe for 3 years before refueling. To my knowledge, it’s the largest fuel load that’s been taken critical in the DOE pilot program, by far.

➡️ We built a full-scale reactor vessel in our factory, and loaded in our commercial graphite layout. All the dimensions, vessel thickness, and manufacturing techniques are essentially the same as we will use for the imminent commercial version. There will be a few minor tweaks for sodium flow and full-power, but nothing major.

➡️ We built an entirely new reactor facility at the Idaho National Lab. Building a building is easy. Building a new reactor facility comes with a mountain of paperwork, policies, operation and training procedures, security, instrumentation and control, and more.

Zero-power criticality might seem like a small step, but I can tell you, going through the exercise of building a reactor and taking it to criticality has been extremely valuable.

The learnings on regulatory, ops, manufacturing, supply chain, QA, economics, engineering, and design will accelerate our path through to the final iteration at full-power.

America is blessed to have a recent Cambrian explosion of startups in nuclear, all going after different markets, technologies, and strategies.

I’m excited that sodium, gas, salt, and new PWRs are all getting pushed forward once again. The best outcome for humanity is to have all these advance in parallel, as quickly as possible, while maintaining safety.

Thanks again to our amazing team, DOE, INL, BEA, and everyone else who helped us get to where we are today.

This could not have happened anywhere else. Happy birthday, America!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

There has never been a better time for nuclear energy. The Second Atomic Age has begun, and this one will be here to stay.

Hard to imagine a better Issue #1 - amazing work @evansammccann !!

@avarma you've had an impact on so many, including me. Thank you for everything 🙏
For years, @avarma has been one of the most important people in Toronto tech without many outside the ecosystem fully understanding why.

He helped build Xtreme Labs. Autonomic sold to Ford. Xtreme’s story even brushes up against Tinder.

He has been described as “sort of the s put it more bluntly: “What people don’t realize is that he was carrying Toronto and KW tech on his back.”

Now, with Mantle, he is building again.

💯

We need to ensure the best builders can come to 🇨🇦
Canada should be a magnet for the world’s best founders. 🇨🇦

Instead, our startup visa process is slow and broken.

We need to fix it - fast.

The Groq - Waterloo/Canada connection runs deep!🇨🇦

@mmccauley, Waterloo Tron '11 and @GarageCapital invested in Groq at seed. @chamath, Waterloo EE '99, did @groq's entire Series A.

Adrian Mendes, Waterloo EE '99, was Groq's first COO, for 7 years. @sundeep, Groq's current COO/President, is from UOttawa.

...not to mention the army of Waterloo/Canadians working in different engineering roles, including interns like @XanderChin, who demoed OpenGhost at @akatoshouse Fall Showcase.

Congrats to everyone, as a frequent Groq API user, $20 billion honestly seems too cheap. Nvidia got an absolute steal!
Nvidia acquiring Groq for $20B is a big deal.

Groq chips are insanely fast at inference, sometimes 10x GPUs. The trick is to put model weights in SRAM instead of HBM to trade memory capacity for speed.

Its $/token may lose to GPUs, but for long-wait inference on models like ers.

If I were Sam Altman, I’d buy it. $20B is cheap.

Jensen made the right call.

Huge congrats @JonathanRoss321, @sundeep, & the entire @GroqInc team!

Jonathan, it was clear from our humble days at Google X that you had big ambitions. So happy for you!

Thank you for letting us @GarageCapital participate in the first round (and several since). What a ride 🙏
Today Groq entered into a non-exclusive licensing agreement with Nvidia for Groq’s inference technology. Along with other members of the Groq team, I’ll be joining Nvidia to help integrate the licensed technology. GroqCloud will continue to operate without interruption.

Here is the harsh truth as someone who allocates capital in different parts of the world:

Canada is no longer a compelling place to invest. Hasn’t been for a few years now. As a result, the economic prosperity of Canada will continue to shrink. This is despite an incredibly young, bright, capable and technical workforce that is second to none.

In short, Canada needs more meritocracy and less virtue signaling.

Make Canada Great Again!!

Great conversation with @TheValuesVC on the @KauffmanFellows Summit main stage. My advice to all VCs: you should be geographically agnostic. Your TAM is the world - not where you live. There is an enormous amount of talent in tech in Canada.
