Hold on. I misread that. They halved my $200 sub plan? But framed it as more efficient in the long run? Wtf?
Super exciting: $200 sub plan won’t (!) reintroduce 5h rate limit. And we will see some features added to the plan that’s not using rates. Really really interesting.

Let the price war start!

It’s crazy how OpenAI and Anthropic have swapped places. Anthropic used to make their subscriptions worse, but now it’s OpenAI. Meanwhile, Anthropic has incredibly efficient models with Opus and Sonnet.

@kimmonismus Exactly that. They try really hard to obfuscate the fact that they are nerfing the subscriptions.

@kimmonismus Essentially the number of tokens you get is less, but at the same time the number of tokens you need is also less

@kimmonismus My guess is that they were bleeding $ too hard so had to pull back, sadly seems all big talk about big efficiency gains was just talk

@kimmonismus but wait, if the pro 20x is now 10x usage, then it's correctly priced at 10x the $20 a month plan, therefore it was, up until this halving of usage, INCORRECTLY PRICED and should have been called the 40x plan (idfk I'm just playing devils advocate)

It will get way worse.

Seems like they're getting this out before the devday news so it gets forgotten

@kimmonismuse they are trying to tank their own Dev day? If they were all ready listed i would think they want to tank share prices, buy back their stock, and then reverse all these decisions...but since they aren't I just dont understand why they are doing shit like this unless we are all reading this wrong somehow???

@kimmonismus "hey you're going to get half of what you used to starting tomorrow, but at some point Luna may be as good as Astra today so stay seated." I hope I'm wrong or I'll have to get another Claude sub until they change their usage, too. Which they 100% will.

@kimmonismus Yep you got it right. I have a $200/month Pro plan as well and I was considering upgrading to the $500/month plan based on what they show tomorrow but now I'm leaning towards canceling altogether because they're cutting usage 50% out of nowhere.

Fuck that nonsense.

@kimmonismus They're going to bring a bot, for people that don't need "bots" that wanted to use the sub for coding, not chat, I don't have social issues to chat with a bot. i have irl friends, was using AI to code, with this change, I keep saying i doubt I will keep 2x200 subs on codex.

@kimmonismus So today they announce the bad stuff and hope it will all be forgotten by tomorrow, despite the strong competition from Anthropic. I wonder what they will show on DevDay that makes them so confident.

@kimmonismus Tibo was becoming too popular. Sam invented this half usage change, made Tibo try to spin it, one big humiliation ritual.

@kimmonismus Now it looks like we might only get around $1,000 in API usage per week :( x.com/SPAC89/status/…
The $200 Codex Pro plan now gives you roughly $4,000 worth of API priced usage around 2B tokens with Astra + 6B with GPT-6 Sol, That’s over $16,000 per month at API pricing, and that’s not even counting the resets, According to Tibo, though, the gap between API pricing and get much smaller in the future, So eventually, a $200 plan could give you something much closer to $200 worth of API usage, enjoy this era of heavily subsidized compute while it lasts, I absolutely love Codex, it’s probably my favorite tool to use every day, and I’m really glad they’re being transparent about this and now it’s also confirmed that there won’t be a 5 hour limit, which is amazing!
