The $200 Codex Pro plan now gives you roughly $4,000 worth of API priced usage around 2B tokens with Astra + 6B with GPT-6 Sol, That’s over $16,000 per month at API pricing, and that’s not even counting the resets, According to Tibo, though, the gap between API pricing and get much smaller in the future, So eventually, a $200 plan could give you something much closer to $200 worth of API usage, enjoy this era of heavily subsidized compute while it lasts, I absolutely love Codex, it’s probably my favorite tool to use every day, and I’m really glad they’re being transparent about this and now it’s also confirmed that there won’t be a 5 hour limit, which is amazing!
Hi,
Tomorrow we are re-opening the Pro $200 subscriptions to new subscribers, but together with it we are also changing how we calculate the usage for it. In effect, if you do the math, it will net out at half the dollar in API spend compared to the old Pro $200 plan.
Now that it's said, let me explain why this is happening and why you will still get more work done than if you were on the Pro $200 subscription one month ago.
(a) We didn't want to compromise in other ways and are committing to not reintroducing the 5h limit, so that you can fully use the weekly usage when you want.
(b) On the subscription, we guarantee that over time you always get more work done and with an increasing level of quality. This means that you will continue to get more value per dollar spent as a result of models getting more efficient and us passing down the improvements in the form of API price reductions.
(c) We don't want to put an incentive on ourselves to artificially inflate the API list prices to make it look like you are getting a lot (and workaround it through discounts, etc). Instead we want to continue to both rapidly reduce prices and increase capabilities of models on the API. This week we introduced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna at 50% of their previous price. Over time, we see prices go low enough that it makes sense for most to buy usage as needed without there being a significant gap between what you get in a subscription and what you get in the API for a dollar spent.
(d) Tomorrow, we are adding more things to the subscription that won't draw on the usage, I won't reveal what that is yet.
I wanted to be transparent before all the big announcements tomorrow. Lots of new exciting things are coming to the subscriptions that will make it super compelling, but I wanted to make sure to share this change ahead of time so you can all understand it before we shower you with good news.
Codexingly,
Tibo

This is the usage report from my second account using OpenUsage, and the numbers are really close, They basically match the limits I’m seeing on my first account too,I use the first one on my PC and the second one on my Mac x.com/SPAC89/status/…
Codex Pro 20x , I just tested this on my second account and got close to 17B tokens of usage between Astra and GPT-6 Sol, basically the same as what I got on my first Pro 20x account, That works out to roughly $500 worth of API priced usage per day on a $200 plan, which will now day, I honestly don’t really understand why they announced this today out of nowhere. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to announce it after the DevDay products were released? And apparently the new $500 plan is being announced today too!

@SPAC89 read it and thought the same thing, but then I wondered if maybe I'd misunderstood something. But yeah, I guess that's really how it works then...
With all of this, local models are starting to look more and more appealing. The only problem is that the hardware is expensive as hell right now.

@SimonasLTU1 Yeah, exactly Prices will probably keep going up until demand starts to cool down, which seems pretty unlikely right now since almost all of the available supply is already booked, The downside of running it locally, though, is that you can’t really use subagents :(

@r3bix_ I use Claude too, but one thing I really don’t like is constantly hitting the 5 hour limit and then having to wait a few hours for it to reset.
With Codex Astra, I don’t have that 5 hour limit, and in my daily use Codex has simply been more reliable for the amount of work I do

@SPAC89 This very contradicts with another post saying that $200 codex worth less than $7000 a month x.com/kunchenguid/st…
ok everyone, i took one for the team
here's the data we all wanted to see - real token value of each LLM subscription, empirically measured through usage on my real subscriptions
- supergrok heavy has now become the highest value at $12k worth of tokens (40x ROI)
- the $200 thropic roughly give the same amount of token value, $7k give or take
- cursor ultra's ROI is the lowest among mainstream subscriptions, roughly half of OAI or Ant. for individual consumers i'm afraid this no longer makes sense to purchase
this was done in a clean environment. i ran each provider across 5 whole % points of my quota through repeated eval tasks in open source repos, and measured the total token value from all the agent sessions based on API pricing
caveat 1 - this only measures their coding agent quota (which is the majority of the offered value), and does not include things like chat bot or grok bot
caveat 2 - none of the providers commit to never changing this, so this is a snapshot of what the offering looks like today. i cannot guarantee it won't change again
caveat 3 - the token value assumes you exhaust your subscription completely, which may not be realistic in real world usage

@zmtn_o’s lying. He hasn’t shown a single piece of evidence,I have SuperGrok Heavy too, and it only gives around $1,500 worth of API usage per month, Here’s the SemiAnalysis benchmark they’re pretty well respected in this space so you can see the actual usage numbers for yourself, I also have three $200 Codex accounts, and all three show basically the same limits x.com/SemiAnalysis_/…
Recently, we purchased one of each Anthropic/OpenAI subscription plan and randomly ran long horizon coding tasks until we exhausted the weekly limit. It's widely believed that a $200/month plan maxes out at ~$2000/month worth of tokens (assuming API pricing). However, we found are actually far more generous. (2/4)

@SPAC89 interesting take but to put it into perspective, openai isn't the only one in the race. there is anthropic and open weight models as well.

@SPAC89 People actually believe this lmfao. It cost them nothing to run the models on their side. With the 200 dollar plan they are already making 90% profit at least.
And now they are cutting your usage in half.

@SPAC89 What about the allegations of lobotomized models on the sub? Saw a few posts showing the difference in quality of API and sub on the same model.

@SPAC89 this is not subsidized in any way it's the complete opposite. their profit margins are close to 80% on the API prices you can literally do this math yourself. if they are raising prices it's only because people will pay.

@SPAC89 misleading as the only reason the counter for api prices is so inflated is inout token burn bug in codex. If you count output tokens the picture is radically different. At this point they are literally scamming people both subscribers and api users. x.com/ivanopcode/sta…
fellow codex limit sufferers ('weekly gone by wednesday' club): i accidentally found the core issue behind it, with help from muse spark (cc @claireszhou) and fable. plugged muse-spark 1.3 into codex, hit a float-to-int bug on a tool call, pulled the thread 🧵

@SPAC89 If 4k worth of API lasts me only 2 days a best with barely any work done then that 4k can suck my fucking balls

@SPAC89 why I have warned everyone. The low subsidized prices and encouraged people to build factories not widgets while the AI is cheap. Many businesses AI strategy did not factor for the subsidized cost of what they were actually receiving. If you were smart, you built. Non-ai dependent Production factories to create more value and more productivity for your organization While the costs were so cheap. Now you will have to adjust to non. Subsidized economics of AI compute

@SPAC89 the 5 hour limit was never an issue, it was always the weekly limit. there is no reason to stay with openAI now, worse models, 50% limit drop. Why stay?

@SPAC89 This math is wrong. It's substantially less. It will maybe reach $1,750 worth of API-equivalent (inflated) usage

@SPAC89 Wouldn't it be better to stop people from having more than 2 some people have more than 10 of 20x Pros (one person on here had 17 at the same time) thats where the focus should be not punishing us with 1 Pro 20x....

@SPAC89 They cant keep subsidizing it forever , and that will suck for us , when they do start cutting the limits massively

@SPAC89 To be honest, matching the value we have today is a losing proposition. Dropping it in half, is a loser.
