I made something. It sounds boring: it's an application to look at fonts. But it can do a lot! Most of which I described on a little web page, where you'll also find a download link: fontgoggles.org

As good as it gets with rounded rectangles in CSS
I've recreated this animation with a few lines of CSS.

What I feared turns out to be true: Adobe software has surpassed MS Office as a major source of font dev frustrations (at least in my bubble)

Which Python version are you using FontTools with?

Context: we are thinking of dropping support for Python 3.7 before its scheduled end-of-life around mid next year: github.com/fonttools/font…

Shout if you'd like us to continue supporting Python 3.7 for a few more months!

Behdad was on a roll with the ASCII art! Excellent work.
@Mark2Mark_one @ArrowType You're very welcome. :)

Now I've got to warn, moving the default typically blows up the font size unfortunately, because of how OT variations are stored...

Here's the core of the logic, with ASCII art:

I finally tried out v5 of the Designspace spec, which allows separate but related fonts (e.g. Roman and Italic) to be set up in one file, along with labels for instance style attributes… and it’s amazing!

FontMake built it beautifully, including both fonts with stat tables. 🎉

TIL that in CSS, if you want to position an item relative to its parent, you tell the parent to position relative and the child item to position absolute. 🤷 Noob life.
(Mostly tweeting so I have a better chance of remembering next time I need it.)
