I’m really excited that FontTools can now set the default of a variable font axis without needing a whole separate source for this, so I wrote a quick script to test it out.
It’s simple, and works really well!

Now I've got to warn, moving the default typically blows up the font size unfortunately, because of how OT variations are stored...
