@thdxr But how will I make money on my dinky app if I don’t charge a 7000% markup for the enterprise plan????

@thdxr 100% never made sense to me. I have worked at 4 person startup and we had SSO from day 1, just annoyed us when had to get enterprise for it to work on other places.

@thdxr The SSO tax is especially wild when their company value is “customers first” …

@thdxr The pattern seems to be oidc sso is free, but scim (groups) is not.
Makes sense and is a good compromise.

@thdxr I’m torn.
On one hand I like it when enterprise plans keep enterprise feature like that in an enterprise only plan.
Unless you mean like oauth/2fa. Then yea need that on base plans for sure
Scim stuff can be enterprise only I think and chargeable in that context

@thdxr If they didn’t then why would an enterprise be forced to switch to API pricing with Anthropic instead of giving everyone a 200 dollar plan and saving literal 10s of millions.

@thdxr Yep it's really frustrating for what we want to offer but just can't.

@thdxr I refuse to use any product that gates SSO behind a paywall.

@thdxr sso behind enterprise pricing is a security tax, every plan should ship it

We just raised $5.7M for @polarbrowser, the AI browser that beats Anthropic and OpenAI on every major web agent benchmark.
- 4,500,000+ actions taken for users, automating sales, recruiting, and ops
- One company cancelled Clay and saves 25+ hrs/wk per person
- Team is from MIT, Street, Perplexity, Modal, and Apple
100 hours of work. From 30 seconds of typing.

@thdxr SSO? Anthropic doesn't even offer basic MFA for non Team/Enterprise subs (except obviously if you login via Google, but then it's Google's MFA)

@thdxr Shopify had that for the longest time! If you wanted SSO for your business, you had to pay them the Enterprise rate of the day, sometimes $2000/month depending on which way the wind blows! Always blew my mind those artificial barriers the accountants dream up to make money.

@thdxr It's one of the best ways to charge more to entreprise than to customers for the exact same product.

@thdxr SSOが上位プラン限定だと、小さなチームほど退職時のアカウント整理を手作業で抱えることになりますね。人数に関係なく、安全に使い続けるための機能は選べるようにしてほしいです。

@thdxrappening at the auth provider level too. Clerk used to include unlimited SSO connections in a flat paid add-on. Earlier this year they switched to per-connection pricing: one included, then $75/month for each additional customer SSO connection. Makes offering SSO to everyone more expensive before you’ve even priced your own product.

@thdxr funny part is the same vendors that gate sso behind enterprise will send you a security questionnaire asking if you enforce sso everywhere
