A lot of great feedback for this “pull-aside” NDTV ChaiStop where Gen David Petraeus interacted in a small huddle with serving Indian officers & veterans including 2 former Chiefs at the NDTV World Summit.

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh handed over command of the #IndianAirForce today, after 42 years of distinguished service.
On the occasion, he paid homage at the #NationalWarMemorial to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the Nation. This was followed by a our, presented as a parting salute by the Air Warriors of the #IAF.

Fascinating - the jet is likely PAF. You learn something new daily:
When foreign F-16s transit U.S. airspace, U.S. military bases, or NATO-controlled transit hubs (such as Lajes Field in the Azores, where this photo was taken), U.S. FMS serial numbers and regulatory insignias remain on record for international airworthiness tracking.

Seemab, the second image is not of a PAF F-16. There are clear USAF markings. I don't spot any PAF markings in the third image either.

Critical suggestions which may save lives. Helicopter ops in Uttarakhand have an awful safety record - 13 incidents in the last decade, including 6 fatal crashes. ~37 people dead. 13 fatalities just last year in 2 crashes in May and June. Ridiculous.
Everytime there is an accident, all of us as aviators have collectively lost someone dear. It’s not just the crew or the pax or the machine, the loss is always insurmountable.
Just when we thought UCADA had done a great job avoiding any incidents other than a wire hit, we hear of the VTHCX crash.
This opens the Pandora’s box on how constant commercial interests overtake safety. Precious lives lost. When will we wake up to the reality and have the will to prevent more such accidents?
Inputs from a seasoned helicopter pilot in the valley: Best resolution for prevention of such accidents.
1) Make single-engine helicopters, have 2 pilots.
2) All single-engine helicopters to have autopilot.
3) H-SVS - Tailored helicopter synthetic vision with high-resolution obstacle and terrain tracking and mapping in Uttarakhand.
4) Set up 4 ATC and ops centers for all 4 dhams with met and independent VHF frequencies.
5) Set up doppler weather radars and weather reporting facilities en route wherever there are no weather aids.
6) Mandatory simulator refresher, with emphasis on hill ops, for all pilots annually.
UCADA and the helicopter operators have enough funds to ensure all of the above points.

Sad he couldnt get a proper farewell game at the Air Force golf course.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh ends his tenure tomorrow - among the finest Chiefs I have seen in 3 decades of covering the forces. Met him first when he headed the National Flight Test Centre's team of test pilots flying the Tejas. Excellent aviator, a very fine mind. Utterly s mind - singularly determined to make changes where they mattered. Didn't want to kick the can down the road. Took on HAL directly with Tejas and made it clear - deliver what you promise or don't deliver at all. This was the man we needed at the helm for Op Sindoor. In an era of social media, foreign disinformation campaigns on X and a plain lack of understanding of how warfare happens, his reputation took a hit over IAF losses during Sindoor. The expectation was of a perfect record. That doesn't happen in military operations of the scale and intensity that we saw. Important to remember ACM Singh as the Chief who helmed the IAF's massive fight back which forced Pakistan to the ceasefire table. On May 10, 2025, the IAF hit Pakistan harder than at any point since the 1971 war, 54 years earlier. By about noon that day, the IAF was clearly on the ascendency, picking off high value targets at will. More than 10 airbases and air defence sites had been struck. An Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft had been shot down. IAF jets tasked with hitting even more targets had to abort their missions when Pak's DGMO picked up the hotline and said they had had enough. That will remain my abiding memory of Air Chief Marshal AP Singh.

These are the statistics that really matter ! India records one of the fastest poverty declines in the world according to the World Bank’s latest Poverty & Equity Brief 👍🏻👍🏻
It seems to me that India’s achievements in human development are extremely undervalued vs China. What it has managed to do as a diverse democracy holds far more relevant lessons for much of the world than China’s sui generis path.

Patrick Stewart in the final scene on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
It’s extremely simple, but reveals so much of his character if you watched. Somehow his sense of duty and sensitivity, along with the admiration of his crew shines through.
RIP Captain.

In 1987, Patrick Stewart refused to unpack his suitcase for six straight weeks.
My throat still tightens every time I read why.
Every Hollywood insider told the 47-year-old British stage actor that Star Trek: The Next Generation would be a disaster. Even his closest friend, Ian t to throw away his Shakespearean career on a television gamble.
Stewart kept his bags packed by the door, waiting to be fired and sent home to London.
That "six-week failure" lasted 36 years.
Watching him late at night here in Japan, we saw something Hollywood never expected.
In Japan, we call this quiet, unbreakable spirit "Fudoshin," an immovable heart under fire.
Most action heroes scream and fire weapons to look strong.
Captain Picard never needed to raise his voice.
Born into deep poverty in Yorkshire, terrified of a violent home, he left school at age 15 and lost all his hair by 19, convinced his life as an actor was over before it began.
Yet one English teacher, Cecil Dormand, handed that frightened 12-year-old boy a copy of Shakespeare, said "Read it out loud," and secretly paid for his first drama course.
Never forget what happened decades later.
On the morning Queen Elizabeth II knighted him as Sir Patrick Stewart, he invited that same retired schoolteacher to sit beside him at his knighthood luncheon.
No suitcase left unpacked.
No rage on the bridge.
Just a cup of Earl Grey tea, a tug of his uniform, and three quiet words that commanded the galaxy:
"Make it so."
He passed away at 86 surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, and laughter.
And this December, in Avengers: Doomsday, Professor X will grace the screen one final time.
A boy who thought he wouldn't last six weeks in Hollywood gave the world an eternity of nobility.
From Japan, with tears and our deepest salute:
Thank you, Captain. Engage. ✨🖖🇯🇵

Vertex - will she be able to launch with 2 drop tanks plus 4 AAMs, of which at least two are Meteors? Alternatively, will she be able to launch with two drop tanks,a single SCALP or Exocet plus two AAMs? All in hot, humid weather? @JA_Maolankar
We are literally repeating the same design-mismatch mistakes of the naval fulcrums. This is what happens when you don't have grid on your own indigenous aircraft like TEDBF: Compromises! Compromises with capabilites.
