The country is going down the pan and our Prime Minister is faffing around tweaking parking tickets.
What is the point in Burnham if he refuses to touch the big issues like the ballooning benefits bill?

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced changes to car parking fines
- Drivers will have a 5-minute grace period to decide whether to park and 10 minutes to leave after a parking session ends
- A £20 maximum charge on appeal for minor mistakes, such as entering the wrong number plate or not displaying a permit
- Charges will also be cancelled on appeal for breakdowns, medical emergencies or broken ticket machines
- The £100 cap on charges will remain
- The rules will come into force as soon as possible and operators that break them will lose access to DVLA data

@RobertJenrickrt, but this isn't it.
Parking charges are killing the high streets across the UK. Spending £4 to £5 before you've even started shopping is criminal. Across Asia the idea of paying to park to visit a shopping mall or go for a meal is considered ridiculous, yet in the UK the government has allowed these dodgy parking companies to operate. Worse than that, it's turned a blind eye to their predatory behaviour.
Something has to be done.

@RobertJenrickbenefits bill is rising only by inflation and statutory formulas, not ballooning, and the biggest increases are in pensions, not working‑age welfare. So why do politicians claim the bill is “ballooning”?
Because it’s a convenient narrative. You have to ask yourself why they are pursuing this untrue narrative

@RobertJenrick This demonstrates how little you realise about the lives of ordinary people. Many people have experienced stress and anxiety due to unfair parking charges relentlessly pursued by private parking companies.

@RobertJenrick terrible, we won’t say why as crime and immigration is the lowest its been in years and much better than when I was in the cabinet, just hate your country for no specific reason and know that we are the only people to fix these nondescript horrendous issues. Something about dangerous brown people”

@RobertJenrick That’s not true. Andy Burnham has said that he is "not squeamish" about bringing the overall benefits bill down, but insists the reduction must be achieved through systemic reform rather than immediate financial penalties.

@RobertJenrick Benefit bill is at 11% of GDP.
Exactly the same as when you were in the Conservative Government!
You just want to demonise the poor claiming small amounts of benefits, in an effort to stop us looking at the £billions of tax evaded by the rich!!

@RobertJenrick Who caused the "Ballooning benefits bill"? Oh yes, it was 14 years of this lot who did NOTHING but benefit their friends and wreck the economy! If you look carefully, I think you'll find yourself and much of your party in this lot. #ReformUnfitToGovern

@RobertJenrickll these little things is a tactic. It makes it look like there are no big issues to discuss. If they discuss the big issues they will look incompetent and stupid so they have taken advice and that is just to ignore all major controversial topics and just announce little things. people also stop listening. It's genius really.
