When many countries around the world faced energy shock, shortages and rising fuel costs, India held steady with uninterrupted supply of affordable fuel under the firm and decisive leadership of PM Sh @narendramodi Ji.
India successfully navigated every challenge without feeling ecause the leadership of PM Modi Ji is not wired to feel any stress.
Over the years, the Modi Govt has turned every challenge into an opportunity to safeguard the interests of Indian citizens and keep them insulated from the negative of geopolitical crises.
When global energy prices rose sharply, our priority was to protect Indian families and businesses from higher costs. Global crude prices rose by around 80%, but petrol and diesel prices in India increased by only about 8%. The Government and public-sector oil companies took on much of the extra cost.
We cut fuel taxes three times under PM’s leadership to give relief to our people, including cuts in May 2022 of ₹8 per litre on petrol and ₹6 on diesel. We also protected poor families from rising cooking gas prices. While the import-linked cost of an LPG cylinder crossed ₹1,600, Ujjwala beneficiaries paid an effective price of only ₹642.
These steps helped ease the burden on household budgets, food prices and businesses.
All along we kept strengthening our energy infrastructure to reduce import dependence. By increasing domestic production, improving storage and diversifying imports, will be able to protect Indian consumers from future price shocks that other parts of the world face.

Delighted to inaugurate the 29th Energy Technology & Innovation Meet ETM-2026 and interact with a large gathering of captains of industry and professionals of the energy sector in Goa today.
Energy security today is not simply about securing supplies; it is also about navigating confatile prices and sudden disruptions while keeping the country and its economy on the move. India has navigated the recent supply-chain disruptions and maintained steady energy imports, reflecting the success of our energy diplomacy under the leadership of PM Sh @narendramodi Ji.
India has also been able to overcome these challenges because our energy sector was prepared well in advance for such situations. Over the past decade, we diversified crude sourcing from 27 to 41 countries, built 5.33 MT of strategic reserves, raised refining capacity from 215 to 267 MMTPA, and expanded fuel outlets from about 52,000 to over 100,000, LPG import terminals from 11 to 22 and strengthened LPG security by increasing domestic production from around 34,000 tonnes a day to 55,000 a day.
As a result of this, when many parts of the world faced energy emergencies and price shocks, Indian petrol pumps remained fully supplied, cylinders continued to reach households, and retail fuel prices remained contained.
Indian energy consumers remained fully insulated.
India is also strengthening energy security by expanding existing capabilities and capacities, and adopting alternative green fuels of the future.
For a country of India’s scale, success cannot mean choosing one fuel, one technology or one pathway. It means building an energy system that is secure, affordable, diversified and increasingly sustainable.
Samudra Manthan is a major push to unlock India’s offshore hydrocarbon potential, including opening nearly 1 million sq. km of previously designated “No-Go” areas for exploration. It will strengthen domestic E&P and contribute to reducing import dependence, E20 continues to not just provide additional income to our farmers but is also playing a pivotal role in keeping our energy import bills down while GOBARdhan Scheme is helping unlock the potential of agricultural residue and organic waste for Compressed Biogas (CBG), advancing the vision of "Annadata se Urjadata" while supporting rural livelihoods and waste-to-wealth initiatives.

Energy is the fulcrum of India’s economy and the engine of Viksit Bharat under the leadership of PM Sh @narendramodi Ji. With India set to drive about 30% of global incremental energy demand over the next two decades, and with 88% of our crude oil and about 50% of our natural gas still imported, the way forward is simple is to produce more and depend less.
Active exploration has increased to 12 % of the country's sedimentary basin area and, with the award of OALP-X and XI blocks, is expected to reach 19%.
81% of the active exploration area has been awarded after 2014, underscoring the scale and impact of the reforms undertaken over the past decade Our target is to reach 1 million sqkm of exploration acreage by 2030.
DSF Bid Round IV was launched on 15 April 2025. It offered 55 discoveries, grouped into nine contract areas across five sedimentary basins, covering 6,133.02 sqkm. Three onland areas account for 1,120.91 square kilometres; six offshore areas cover 5,012.11 square kilometres.
Together, these 55 discoveries hold an estimated 260 million tonnes of oil equivalent of in-place volume.
9 new private sector players participated in DSF-IV which shows that reform is meaningful when it improves the terms on which companies can invest, take technical decisions and bring fields into production.
India's domestic hydrocarbon production will receive a boost through the visionary Samudra Manthan programme, launched by PM Modi Ji, which aims to unlock offshore resources through new seismic surveys, shared drilling costs for around 60 deep- and ultra-deep-water wells, and common offshore infrastructure.
DSF-IV and Samudra Manthan are two halves of one strategy to develop what we have discovered; explore what remains beyond our reach.
