#ONGC strikes gas in the deep waters of Mahanadi Basin.

MDW-28, the maiden well of ONGC’s current deepwater campaign in the Mahanadi Basin is flowing gas with encouraging rates and sustained reservoir pressure.

The campaign was launched on 25 July 2026 by Hon'ble Minister of Shri @HardeepSPuri, with the spudding of MDW-28 (MN-DW18-1-H-D) in the deep offshore Mahanadi Basin, aligned with the Government's Samudra Manthan initiative.

The well was perforated on 18 September 2026 following evaluation of subsurface data. It is currently flowing with a good gas rate and healthy reservoir pressure. During operations, ONGC @ChairmanONGC @singharunongc, Director (Technology & Field Services) @vikramsONGC, and Director (Exploration) @opsinhaONGC visited the drillship to interact with and encourage the crew onboard. This find, along with other discoveries in the area, can be a candidate for development through shared facilities enabled by the PNG Rules, 2025, bringing deepwater resources onstream.

ONGC will continue to push into deep and ultra-deepwater frontiers in the search for hydrocarbons, and towards India's goal of energy security.

Hopefully, a new chapter in India's energy frontier.

Deployed under the ambitious #SamudraManthan mission, Platinum Explorer is undertaking exploratory drilling in the Mahanadi Basin, off the Odisha coast. The campaign commenced with the spudding of MN-DW18-1-H-D on 25 July 2026, a significant step towards unlocking the energy potential of India’s offshore frontier.

Across the vast expanse of the Bay of Bengal, ONGC’s energy soldiers continue to push the boundaries of exploration, with courage, precision and purpose, in service of a more energy-secure India.

Following the severe floods that affected Assam in 2026, #ONGC is extending ₹20 crore in #CSR support for the rebuilding and restoration of approximately 700 flood-affected schools, particularly in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to this en ONGC and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (@sdma_assam) on 21 August 2026 at Janata Bhawan, Dispur. The restoration initiative is envisaged to be completed within seven months from the release of the CSR funds, helping affected schools return to a safe and functional state at the earliest.

For ONGC, which has shared a long and enduring association with Assam, this is a humble contribution towards communities rebuilding after adversity.

#ONGC strengthens India’s deepwater exploration campaign, by placing the NOA for hiring of a second ultra-deepwater drillship DDKG2, which will be mobilised in the next 3-4 months.

A significant step towards strengthening India’s energy innovation ecosystem was marked with the launch of MC²+ Ignite, India’s Flagship Energy Innovation Accelerator at @iitmadras on 19 mme has been designed to support deep-tech startups developing technologies for India’s energy sector.

The initiative was launched by the Hon'ble Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Chairman, MC² Foundation, Dr Neeraj Mittal, IAS, along with leaders of India’s Oil & Gas sector.

By bringing together industry, academia, startups and research institutions, MC²+ Ignite seeks to provide innovators with access to capital, technical expertise, R&D infrastructure, real pilot sites and pathways to commercial deployment, helping indigenous technologies move from ideas to impact.

Around 30 startups will be selected, with eligible ventures receiving up to ₹2 crore in milestone-linked convertible funding. Applications are open till 31 August 2026.

#ONGC has connected Khoraghat GGS-1 in Golaghat, Assam to the North East Gas Grid, enabling utilisation of nearly 1 lakh SCM of gas per day from Jorhat Asset.

With the Dergaon–Dimapur Pipeline connecting Nagaland to the North East Gas Grid and the National Gas Grid, this gas access across the region.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. @himantabiswa, met @ChairmanONGC @singharunongc, as #ONGC reaffirmed its steadfast solidarity with the people of Assam in the aftermath of the devastating floods.

Translating commitment into action, ONGC has pledged ₹25 crore towards the ing of flood-affected schools and educational institutions, as well as the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, helping rebuild not only infrastructure, but also classrooms, hope and the future of Assam’s children.

The unprecedented floods have also caused significant damage to ONGC’s own facilities across the state, with restoration estimated at approximately ₹175 crore. Even as work progresses to restore these installations, ONGC remains firmly committed to supporting Assam and its communities through recovery and rebuilding.
