Saw a procedural shader like this and wanted to try something similar in Unreal Engine. Ended up with this.

p.z-=T;

One of the biggest problems I see in the AI community is how many people with little or no experience in game development or programming mistake every flashy demo for a technological breakthrough.
Even some of the biggest AI news accounts fall into this category. They got into t without understanding the fundamentals, they're now misleading others about what AI actually accomplishes.
Ready-made Unreal Engine projects and marketplace assets are being repackaged as “AI-built games.” The same crowd sees a Three.js demo and thinks game development has been solved. When the truth comes out, some creators quietly delete their posts.
As a result, people jump into game development thinking AI will handle everything, only to end up producing AI slop. And I don't think most of them even realize what they're doing.
My advice to anyone genuinely interested in making games: Study game design, 3D modeling, animation, programming, and gameplay mechanics. Use AI to help you learn these fundamentals.
The more you understand the process, the better you can guide AI. If you don't know where to point it or how to evaluate its output, you can't expect quality results.
The problem isn't what AI can do. It's how well you understand what you're asking it to do.

This is what my Dot can actually produce in Blender, by the way. Stop misleading people by passing off marketplace assets as AI generated work.

Isn't this just Epic's free City Sample? The map, traffic, NPCs, vehicles, and character controls are already included.
Did Kimi actually build anything beyond swapping the character and tweaking the Animation Blueprint?
What exactly took 10 hours and 4 million tokens?

People have been pointing out PHP’s serious flaws and arguing that we should move away from it since at least 2009.
17 years later, here we are again, discussing two critical vulnerabilities.
Some things never change.

Some things never change.
The PHP security team is giving advance notice: Upcoming security release Wed, Oct 21st 2026, 14:00UTC, two critical vulnerabilities, both rated CVSSv4 9.2.
PHP users are encouraged to prepare to update. Earlier release if details become public or active exploit evidence.

“I think we could ship absolutely nothing and be fine.”
That's a dangerous mindset.
That's a dangerous mindset.
@TimJayas I think we could ship absolutely nothing and be fine. But we will ship pretty insane things instead.

Everything sounds great, but could you use some of that AI acceleration to fix the Epic Games Launcher first?
Mine is somehow using over 5 GB of VRAM. It's a launcher, not a game.

We have a huge pivot underway here at Epic, moving developers around to retool for maximum AI acceleration.
The aim isn't to do the same stuff with fewer people, but to enable everyone here to build MORE and BETTER stuff, and to bring the benefits to all teams using Unreal.

Nothing we praise survives even three days. Another victim of benchmarkmaxxing.
Muse Wonder is benchmaxxed.
Meta says it beats the competition on the key benchmarks. On the BridgeBench lava lamp test it built a red cylinder.
No glass. No lava.
I've never seen a model this benchmaxxed in my life.

A lot of people are upset because they expect this to turn into AI slop.
But AI-generated content doesn't have to look like slop when done properly. A lot of bad results come from people jumping in without understanding production pipelines, leading to weird and inconsistent output.
Of course, the model itself makes a difference too.

Epic Games has reportedly told devs to use more AI tools on its delayed Star Wars & Marvel shooter title
One director told staff "No more hand-written code" and said all game art should be "generated with full AI workflows"

Next update: changing the font size.
Day 7/
We have increased default context length for GPT-6.1 Sol to 500k when used through Codex & Work, up from 272k or an ~ 80% increase.
We will go higher in the future, but it helps reduce occurrence of compactions and with tasks that require keeping a lot of context and nuance over periods of time. It was carefully tested and is the new sweet spot for most of our users. You can still override it if you want to be higher our lower, with maximum context length of GPT-6.1 Sol of 1M.

Fun fact: Dots are now better at 3D modeling than Astra itself. They can run 24/7, have Blender installed on their computers, and don't eat into your usage limits.
I asked Codex Astra High to recreate Tifa from FF7 in Blender. About 15 minutes later, this is what it came up with. Jiggle physics included.
3D artists, you’re still safe 😂

Never try this with GPT-6.1 Sol. It has no idea how to use it.
Unreal Model Context Protocol (MCP) provides an official, Epic-supported way to connect your favorite agentic LLM tools directly to Unreal Engine🤝
Built on the open MCP standard, it enables agents to take action in your projects using the capabilities exposed by each editor—so agentic coding tools or build your own integrations, skills, and workflows around how you create: epic.gm/ue-mcp-docs

Now do the same for Substance Painter.
