From self-healing build loops to production-ready Jetpack Compose & shaders, Gemini 4 Argon is available to help Android developers with complex development challenges.

Android developers with a paid Google AI Pro subscription can log into Antigravity within Android Studio to start using the new model.
We’re rolling out Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity to paid Google AI Pro subscribers today. Demand has been incredible and we've scaled capacity deliberately to get here. We’ve rolled out a separate weekly-only Argon quota for Pro on top of the existing Gemini bucket for 3.8 Flash so you have the best of Gemini for all your tasks.

🚀 The world desperately needs more long-horizon tasks for models to tackle! Congrats to the @Android team (@matthewmccull et al!) for getting this released.

Android Bench 2.0 expands beyond bug fixes and adding tiny features into complex development tasks that engineers typically spend several days to a week on. The eval slates in at ~30 long-term tasks, including creating new apps, migrating dependencies and designs, and porting cross-platform apps to Android.
📢 Introducing Android Bench 2.0.

We've leveled up our AI evaluation framework to handle real-world, multi-day engineering challenges—from building apps from scratch to migrating cross-platform codebases to Android.

Let’s dive into what’s new. 🧵👇🏽

Super excited to share our latest case study featuring Grab! 🚀
developer.android.com/blog/posts/gra…

Tackling performance across a decade-old codebase with 10M+ lines of code isn't an overnight flick of a switch—the Grab team achieved it by rolling out R8 Compat Mode with Startup Profiles, moving to Full Mode, and using the R8 Configuration Analyzer and refining their keep rules to push their optimization scores past 78% alongside strict CI guardrails.
The overall wins across the rollout:
📉 ~32.5% fewer ANRs
📦 ~30% smaller app size
⚡ 35% faster cold startup

Slashing app download size by ~30% across a 10-million line codebase is easier than ever with R8 and Profile guided optimization. 🛠️

See how @GrabSG rolled out R8 Full Mode and Baseline Profiles to dramatically shrink their app and cut ANRs by 32% → goo.gle/4ysSUHC

We've been improving the #JetpackCompose documentation with loads of small fixes, but also new docs in general! 🔥

For ex: The Dragging composables documentation was updated to showcase Modifier.anchorredDraggable(), showcasing how to make custom navigation drawers with tps://t.co/xgImJHNnlr

My app's paywall was looking a little too light on the animations. So added this carousel to show off all of the animations, plus some icon animations for the features list

I really liked this idea and wanted to join in on the fun and see how it felt as a library.

Introducing Sea Glass for Compose. 🌊

Frosted color, softly tumbled edges, and a little light beneath each piece.
I think Google could find success in making sea glass the next UI material for Material Design 4

Googlebooks are here, and you can scale your app to reach users across the expanding ecosystem. 💻

By building on your existing foundation of adaptive UI, window size classes, and multi-input support, you can deliver an optimized experience → goo.gle/4d4PZwY

@AndroidDev I'm already sizing my Compose ports for the Fold8 unfolded, so I'm hoping window size classes get me most of the way to a Googlebook. Keyboard and trackpad is the part I haven't touched yet.

@JCMAppStudio That's great! Using Window Size Classes is definitely the best start for an adaptive UI, but a true desktop experience is more than just UI: think how you can empower your users to do more by following the desktop app quality guidelines: goo.gle/3U1KEAg

Load-bearing code vs drywall code 🤔👷‍♀️

Fast experimentation uses what we call drywall code while load bearing code is part of the system. What do you think of this concept?

Android shipped an official Jetpack Compose performance skill: install it and your agent statically analyses your Compose code.

Skills from the platform team are how agents in @cursor_ai stop guessing about recomposition. #AndroidDev #JetpackCompose x.com/riggaroo/statu…
We've just released a new official Android skill that can be used to statically analyse your #JetpackCompose code for performance improvements. ⚡️

Install it, and ask your agent to run the skill on your code. 🧑‍💻

We've seen some good results running it internally - give it a try dback!
