Baseball parents of young players: I apologize, it’s a long post, so please read.
Hitting hasn’t changed over the last 50 years. Great hitters have had the same movements and same bat paths. What has changed? The bats. A lot of gurus are teaching this uppercut swing, which works ose bats are designed to hit the ball a mile, but when your kid moves up BBCOR or wood bats, those are now 280 foot pop-ups.
It seems the more complicated the language, or the more devices they introduce, the more likely parents are to go to these coaches. Find a coach or teachers the correct bat path, the correct body movements, and tells you if your son wants to become a great power hitter, he has to develop his body along with his swing. He also has to develop his approach, maybe more than his swing. A great swing only matters if you’re swinging at good pitches. Anyone who’s told you they found the secret to great hitting, they’re just trying to sell you something. Just like someone who tells you they found the trick to easy wealth, that always comes along with someone trying to sell you something.
Start my swinging down, get to bat on plane with your lower half, swing through the ball through contact, and finish high. This, along with a strong lower half and understanding how to use it, will allow your son to be a really really good hitter. Swing off only his back leg, or swinging up will not.
Last bit of advice, if they are online telling ex professional baseball players that they don’t know what they’re talking about, you’re seeing the wrong person.

Now if a hitter as talented as Manny struggled to get the HLP Virus out of his swing imagine what is happening to all the amateurs.

As a middle infielder you get the opportunity to speak to the other team’s players from time to time at second base.
I wasn’t a chatty Cathy but I did talk at some point to most of the guys I played against.
