To people who think that Windows ARM has a chance, I have a simple question:
What do you think is more likely?
1. Microsoft competently ports 20+ years of tech debt to ARM
2. Intel gets slightly better at making chips

I think this comparison misses an important distinction.
Apple *replaced* x86-64 on the Mac. Microsoft is *growing* Windows on Arm alongside x86, while supporting a vastly broader hardware and software ecosystem. Microsoft has no plans to abandon x86, and really couldn't due to 30+ years of legacy app support needed in important markets.
By comparison, Apple controls a small number of hardware configurations (basically, 3 laptop models) and can mandate an architecture transition across the entire platform. Microsoft supports Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, thousands of OEM configurations, and huge enterprise, government, healthcare, and legacy-software deployments.
If you ever worked in a hospital, enterprise, or government, you'd be familiar with custom LOB apps, and how difficult (and expensive) it can be to update those especially on tight iT budgets.
That makes Microsoft's compatibility problem fundamentally different. Apple could draw a line under x86. Microsoft has far stronger reasons to maintain it while Arm matures.
So, Rosetta's transition is relevant, but it isn't an apples-to-apples comparison.

"Microsoft competently ports 20+ years of tech debt"
Define what you mean; right now, this is vacuous and doesn't make much sense on its own.
1. With PRISM, Microsoft doesn't need to port everything. That's the point of emulation, which has also worked for Apple
2. Microsoft doesn't need to do all the porting of third-party apps, which is on ... third-party developers, obviously
3. The OS and all core Microsoft apps and inbox apps are already ARM native and have been for years
4. While specific OEM drivers for old peripherals can be an issue, especially for LOB apps and enterprise, there are also generic ARM drivers for many of those things, e.g., printers that work just fine
5. What apps specifically are critical to the success of Windows (and broader, Windows on ARM) that are currently not working at all?

Macos got good support now
Every app runs native.
Happend in 5 yrs btw.
And and translation is not a permanent fix.

Linux on the M6 Mac Mini, Day 5 - success!
Omarchy is installed on the Mac Mini's hard drive. It boots, it runs.
Still bringing up accessories, including Ethernet and GPU, so my work's not done, but 5 days from the macOS About screen to the Omarchy About screen isn't bad!

M6 Linux update:
Installed a bootloader, got the USB debug console working.
It runs the second-stage loader, and the Linux kernel and initramfs are loaded into RAM.
Next up is the U-Boot handoff and a Linux shell. Then HDMI and an Omarchy desktop, followed by ANE and GPU.

You love your MacBook's hardware.
You just wish it ran Omarchy.
@StudioXRadio got Omarchy fully installed and running on an M4 MacBook Air.
His video shows it up and running on the Air.
He's fixing the last few kinks before opening up the repo.
A big step for anyone who wants Apple hardware with an Omarchy desktop.
Would you put Omarchy on your MacBook? x.com/StudioXRadio/s…

Omarchy on the M4 MacBook Air has its first round of fixes since the alpha.
They ship as signed packages. Connect once with one pasted line, then run omarchy-m4-update for new fixes.
Thanks to @rish3636 for contributing.

Omarchy on the M4 MacBook Air got a lot better today. Run omarchy-m4-update and you get:
• GPU fix: some Airs never reached the desktop because the GPU driver expected one exact power limit. Each Air's own limit is accepted now, tested on two Airs.
• The headphone jack works: itches over when you plug in. Thanks luth-v!
• Closing the lid locks the screen.
• No more keyring errors when you run pacman as your normal user. Thanks @rish3636!
After updating, restart once for the GPU fix and headphones, and log out and back in once for the lid lock.
New installs: installer update 2 works on macOS 26.6.2 (thanks again, luth-v). Same system, byte for byte.
Tonight on the bench:
• Working toward the 4.4 GHz bursts macOS gets, without overheating. Step one, letting idle cores sleep, is in testing: a P core at 3.6 GHz now holds a full 20 seconds and peaks at 91 °C. Without it, the same test hit 105 °C in half a second.
• Working out how to prove this build runs on any M4 Mac, not just my Air, using what Asahi did for M1 and M2.

#omarchy folks - what's currently the best way to run Omarchy in a Parallels VM on Apple Silicon? Seems there's no ready-made iso for it.

@agentK @traskjd @autohiveai The Asahi Linux foundations support for Apple M5 is in alpha testing.
A pile of Omarchy people have been helping.
You can do it, just don't expect stability.
Omarchy works very well on M4 and earlier.

@rish3636 Today my friend. Once I did the release it was missing dependencies I had on my dev box so there’s bugs. Hoping this next test is it.

@StudioXRadio have a question
Can the alpha version be daily drivable?
Coz I only have this mac and no other machine and my semester exams are in a week.
Is it in a point where I can daily drive it??
