I don't really agree with this at all, but I am a little struck by the astonishing advances in the tech world in the last 5 years and how little that had trickled down into the world my kids and non-tech friends inhabit
The quality of life in the United States is really going downhill.
Most people don’t notice it because they have short memories and are just busy living their lives.
You don’t really notice the change from one day to the next.
But in the last 5-10 years things have gone down dramatically.
This has happened under Democrats and Republicans and I don’t see it getting any better.
In fact I think things are going to get a lot worse in the future than they currently are.

It's so helpful to see activism as a religious furvor. Christian women pelting heratics with crosses and calling them witches would be recognized as a manic form of hysterical zealotry. That's exactly what is happening here.
Just got forcibly kicked out of a Portland Thorns game because people were hitting my group with trans flags over our feminist shirts. Living in the upside down

This is incorrect. Obviously writing is the most natural way to interact with intelligence. Socrates talks about this.
We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence.

People are solving things all the time outside of San Francisco but they don't know about it so they don't think it's real. Then they wake up the next morning and give 6 million more dollars to another AI scammer.
some days people come over to my house and tell me how they've solved this or that hard problem and I feel quite lucky to get to see these things happen

"This company received $6 million from Y Combinator"
Currently arguing with a company over whether their blog post advertising a feature implies that their platform should include that feature.
Their support emails are AI-generated, even after I asked for a human. The entire website is AI-generated. Their API docs tell me not to bother reading them, just paste their "integration prompt" into my AI. The founder posted an AI-generated article on Twitter talking about how AI runs the company.
I'm growing increasingly confident that their AI made up a feature that does not exist and wrote dozens of articles advertising this feature in various countries that they do not support.
When I asked their AI assistant to enable this feature on my account, it told me the feature doesn't exist. When I pointed it to the company blog post announcing the feature, it began responding in Chinese.
This company received $6 million from Y Combinator.

Wait, hold up here. A State Senator is taking about "generational wealth" and the topic of conversation is a pot deal?
BREAKING: On phone call that was the subject of an FBI Wiretap, now-indicted Virginia State Senator Louise Lucas stated "this is our last chance at generational wealth...I've got too old not to be greedy."

The day after I saw You Can See Everything, I developed a fever. I haven't slept through the night in a week. I toss and turn and wake up soaked in sweat.
The last 3 days, I've had a recurring dream where every time I toss or turn, there is a red LED clock light counting the number of times I've turned over. Nathan Fielder is sitting next to it staring at me. When the clock increments, Nathan says the number and just looks at me.
(toss) "thirty-four"
(turn) "thirty-five"
I will lay in bed staring at the ceiling avoiding Nathan's gaze. I can't bring myself to close my eyes again bc the number will just go up.
Then I suddenly start awake. The number says 156. I turn over
"one hundred fifty-seven"
He is pitiless. I don't even want to try to sleep anymore.

I hope this passes and the California billionaires pay their billions and California pisses the money away on 3 additional inches of high speed rail and Californians vote themselves 10% of all wealth in 2030
This is huge.
A just-released SEC filing makes an extraordinary revelation: Mark Zuckerberg is getting ready to pay California’s 5% billionaire wealth tax and has signed an agreement to remain in California for 8 years.
We are witnessing a global turning point unfold before our eyes. 🧵

And yet, suspiciously, everyone in SF who raises money ended up going to the same 4 schools
One of the very best aspects of SF culture is that nobody under the age of ~27 cares about what college you went to. You are judged on the value of what you have produced for the world and not a decision that an admissions committee made for you when you were 17

Ironically, AI can NOT go fuck itself unless you specifically instruct it to and provide a detailed spec for the self-fucking in your prompt
‘Wildwood’ director Travis Knight on AI:
“A pencil is a tool. A paintbrush is a tool. A 3D printer is a tool. A digital capture is a tool. AI is not a tool. AI can go fuck itself.”

I was wondering why the news has been stressing me out lately and I think it's because I don't have little kids any more.
Little kids don't care about any of the things that are stressing you out, they just want to read the Cookie Monster book one more time. They just want to climb on your back or throw a ball. They force you to disengage from whatever hard things are on your mind to play princess or make brownies or go for a walk where nothing in the world matters except spending time together.

PoIiMath retweeted
"Call Her Daddy" host Alex Cooper & actress Sophia Bush: if a woman is questioning whether she can do better than her current husband, "the answer is always yes."
"This idea that it's too late or you're too old, or who are you to want more, that's patriarchy. That is crazy."

I didn't realize that Grey's Anatomy was magical realism. That makes me want to give it a shot.
My wife watched Grey’s Anatomy for a bit and here are some REAL plot lines:
-A man has extra arms growing out of his back he calls “Angel Wings” and it’s implied he can hover with them
-A dead dad possesses his son to perform surgery on his sister. The son’s not a surgeon he’s a janitor who just broke into the OR
-A man fell 40,000 ft from a plane and came in with ONE BROKEN LEG
-A man gets crushed in a trash compactor so they do surgery at the dump using trash as tools. They hum the Fat Albert theme during
-The hospital’s swamped because “a guy dressed as a clown blew up a hospital downtown” implying they’re in Gotham City and the Joker is real
-A burglar uses explosives to blow open a safe, the door then imbeds in his chest and they need a locksmith to open it so they can perform surgery
-Jared from Subway is a recurring character
-The main doctor has a migraine so bad she can freeze time. It’s not played metaphorically, she’s physically moving things

Women shouldn't go to jail because they're just cute lil things
Elizabeth Holmes’s crimes were egregious. But far fewer women, with or without children, should be incarcerated at all, writes Tyler Cowen. thefp.com/p/tyler-cowen-…
