every project management software starts out really nice but eventually gets JIRA-fied as they add more and more features I really don't care about. I switch to a new one, and then the same thing happens.

the problem is unfortunately universal across SaaS. they start out as an opinionated, streamlined alternative to the incumbent, but as they get bigger and start selling to enterprises, they try to do everything and end up becoming the very thing they swore to destroy.

The Binance hacker used EIP-7702 to delegate Binance's EOA hot wallets to a smart contract wallet deployed at etherscan.io/address/0x63e8… enabling them to sweep multiple tokens in a single transaction.

The exploit smart contract has these functions:
• authorizedCaller()
• withdrawETH(address recipient, uint256 amount)
• withdrawToken(address,address,uint256)
• sweep(address recipient, address[] assets)
• execute(address target, uint256 value, bytes data)

it's true, try "/goal audit the entire codebase and refactor code where necessary."

AI will always find something to refactor and most of it will be garbage
The thing with working with ai is that you can keep telling them to do something, tighten this writing, improve the style, make it better...

..and no matter how rounds you do, they will keep doing it until the result is absolute garbage.

they never push back that I could but it doesn't seem like a good idea. it's like the opposite of capable human who would just tell you no, you're being dumb, what you actually want is...

(i know I could prompt this this way, but the human bias/the tools kind of just expect you to command them what you want, not really trying to understand what the purpose is, and push back on when the task no longer makes sense)

the choice of secp256k1 over r1 (P-256) in bitcoin (and ethereum) was heavily influenced by the fear of an NSA backdoor. this has been very annoying for wallet developers because the secure enclave chips found in most consumer devices only support r1. passkeys use r1 as well.

turns out there is no backdoor after all... amazing work by anthropic.

this tweet has nothing to do with the stock market.

south korea has the highest suicide rate among OECD nations (regardless of economic booms or busts), and reducing it is one of the core focus areas of the current administration. the news article linked in the tweet states that the suicide rate is already down 10%.

unfortunately, it's very much a cultural issue... when a korean person feels an enormous amount of shame or feels like a burden to others, financially or otherwise, some may commit suicide to preserve their "honor". several prominent politicians (a former president, a former mayor of seoul, etc.) have done the same.

I'm not endorsing that culture, but as the article points out, the trend is moving in the positive direction

SimFarm was one of my favorite childhood video games, so I built a web remake of the 1993 Maxis classic using TypeScript & React (with help from Codex & Claude Code)! Now playable in web browsers and on smartphones, with quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. Source code is availablout dialog).

Play it here: simfarm.petekim.xyz Use browser page zoom if the UI appears too small. On mobile, add it to your Home Screen to play in full-screen mode.

I have been working on a TypeScript/React remake of SimFarm, the 1993 Maxis classic, as a fun side project. It runs on both desktop and mobile. Will ship it soon!

Software development now feels like a token budget arms race.

It used to feel like craftsmanship. Engineers obsessed over elegant architectures, clean abstractions, and took real pride in their beautifully handcrafted code. We attended conferences and watched screencasts to ne our craft.

I remember having tremendous respect and admiration for open-source rockstars like @dhh @wycats @yukihiro_matz @mojombo @mitchellh @tjholowaychuck @dan_abramov and others and falling in love with their code.

Now it feels like it's just about who has a higher token budget. Anything you create can be replicated and outpaced instantly by someone with deeper pockets.

The artisan mindset is quickly fading and honestly it's a little depressing... but I guess we'll adapt.

One of the biggest culture shocks for people visiting Texas for the first time: strangers actually acknowledge you.

make eye contact with someone and there's a good chance you'll hear "Howdy!"🤠

the state motto of Texas is literally "friendship"

Austin's skyline isn't the only thing growing. Among major U.S. metros, Austin has seen the biggest increase in babies and toddlers, which helps explain why EdTech is booming in Austin. (@AlphaschoolATX)

Turns out, when you build more housing, people have more kids. It's that simple.
Austin, TX from the same spot 10 years apart (2014 vs 2024)

Pretty stunning transformation.

And then there’s kasutera, the Japanese sponge cake that the Portuguese missionaries brought to Japan. The name comes from bolo de Castela ("cake from Castile"). It's loved and enjoyed by many not just in Japan, but across East Asia.
Another Portuguese invention that survived in japan is konpeito, coming from the Portuguese confeito. A Portuguese missionary presented it to Oda Nobunaga and it took off. Now it’s a popular springtime treat.

The most mind-blowing thing about @openclaw is its ability to fix its own bugs and improve. It still needs some human guidance, but I think we're getting very close to AI doing "recursive self-improvement", which is supposed to lead us to the technological singularity.

San Francisco in the late 2000s and early 2010s was such a vibe. I miss it dearly.

The next wave of crypto theft scams won’t be phishing emails with fake links. They’ll be emails with prompt injections targeting your AI bots.
