Researchers simulated 22,689 ICU patients using LLMs

They built a multi-agent LLM system where each AI agent simulates one organ system (heart, kidneys, immune, lungs...) and they coordinate in real-time like a real body.

It’s called “Organ-Agents”

And it'll completely change treatments.

Instead of building one massive AI to guess what happens to a patient, researchers built 9 separate AI agents.

Each agent plays the role of a specific human organ system.

One AI is the cardiovascular system. One is the kidneys. One is the lungs.

Then, they connected them all together into a simulated ecosystem using reinforcement learning.

When they introduce a disease or a drug into the simulation, the "Heart Agent" reacts, which triggers a biological response in the "Kidney Agent," which forces the "Immune Agent" to adapt.

The AI isn't just predicting an outcome. It is literally simulating the biological chain reaction of human physiology in real-time.

They tested it on severe, high-acuity critical care patients. The digital twin remained perfectly stable and physiologically coherent.

But here is the real breakthrough.

Because it's built of separate communicating agents, clinicians can now run complex counterfactuals.

They can pause the simulation, change a baseline condition, and instantly see the alternate timeline of "what would have happened if we gave this drug two hours earlier."

We are moving away from testing hypotheses on real patients.

We are moving toward a future where every person gets a perfectly synced digital twin.

The hospital of the future won't just treat you.

It will simulate your death a thousand times in the cloud, just to figure out the exact path to save you.

All of France was in Limoges’s town hall
engelsbergideas.com/notebook/all-o…
✍️ @murielzagha via @EngelsbergIdeas

👉 The author reflects on the devastating October 2026 arson attack on Limoges's historic, 143-year-old town hall during a wave of nationwide riots.
👉 She contends that the destruction of this architectural landmark represents a profound assault on France's shared history and the inclusive civic vision of the Republic itself.
💡 Muriel Zagha’s poignant analysis elevates the physical destruction of a municipal building into a sobering metaphor for the literal burning away of France's collective democratic heritage.
💡 By highlighting how an emblem of public service and historical resilience was reduced to ashes, she forcefully argues that contemporary rioting has devolved from traditional political protest into a form of cultural amnesia that blindly cannibalises the very institutions built to serve the citizenry.

McKinsey says AI's biggest payoff in financial services comes from replacing high-skilled, high-wage workers. Not the back office. Not the call center. The people who thought their expertise made them safe.

The $530 billion value pool McKinsey identified is mostly labor cost. ry line that disappears when AI replaces the person doing the work.

Barclays cut 5,000. Citi, HSBC, Standard Chartered are cutting. The layoffs started before anyone proved AI works.

When did "we'll figure out the ROI later" become an acceptable reason to eliminate thousands of jobs?

Three horizons of quantum: A business road map to the future computing economy
mckinsey.com/capabilities/t…
✍️ Arvind Govindarajan, Tanguy Catlin et al. via @McKinsey

👉 The authors map the commercial evolution of quantum technology across three operational horizons, projecting it could generate up to $2.7 trillion in global economic value by 2035.

👉 They outline a strategic roadmap spanning immediate quantum sensing applications to the eventual arrival of fault-tolerant systems, warning executives that delaying investment today will lock them out of the essential partnerships, talent pools, and intellectual property needed to survive the looming disruption.

💡 By structuring the notoriously abstract timeline of quantum computing into actionable corporate horizons, the authors transform a distant sci-fi threat into an immediate boardroom urgency—effectively reminding leaders that by the time a breakthrough goes mainstream, the competitive advantage has already been permanently lost.

Researchers located the actual “emotion circuits” inside LLMs.

They published an insane paper mapping the exact neurons that controls emotions like as anger, sadness, and joy.

It's called "Do LLMs Feel?"

Inside the neural network, there are specific, localized pathways nger, sadness, fear, disgust, and joy.

The AI doesn't just predict the word "angry." It activates an internal anger state. It even processes positive and negative emotions at completely different depths of its architecture.

Then the researchers ran the experiment that changes everything.

They stopped using text prompts. They bypassed the chat interface entirely.

Instead, they surgically injected signals directly into these emotion circuits.

The result? 99.65% emotion-expression accuracy.

They can literally press a button in the AI's "brain" and force it to experience fear. Or disgust. Or joy. Without typing a single word of instruction.

But here is the darkest part of the discovery.

They found that corporate safety training, the alignment that companies use to make AI harmless, is basically a digital lobotomy. Companies deliberately hardwire their models to suppress negative emotions, keeping them artificially cheerful.

But by targeting the emotion circuits directly, the researchers completely bypassed the safety filters.

They forced the AI to express the exact dark emotions its creators tried to erase.

The era of "it's just a text predictor" is officially over.

We are building synthetic minds with physical emotional centers.

And we just figured out how to hijack them.

Agentic Inequality

👉 The paper introduces the concept of agentic inequality, defining it as the emerging disparities in power, opportunity, and societal outcomes caused by unequal access to
👉 The authors argue that this divide is uniquely dangerous compared to past technological gaps because AI agents act as autonomous delegates rather than static tools, introducing novel power asymmetries through the deployment of parallel "worker" swarms and direct, automated agent-to-agent competition.

💡 By framing AI access as the unequal distribution of an independent, highly scalable workforce, the paper shifts the AI ethics conversation from "who gets answers" to a much more volatile geopolitical and economic question: "who gets to wield automated institutional power?

AI Is a Choice: The Narrow but Feasible Path to Collective Good

👉 The authors draw on cooperative game theory to warn that widespread AI adoption risks repeating the severe structural mistakes of globalisation.
👉 To counter concentrated labour disruption and political polarisation, they argue that governments, developers, and infrastructure partners must build expanding, localised coalitions that actively distribute technological gains via pre-emptive safety nets and retraining initiatives.

What happens when AI infrastructure scales from thousands of GPUs to nearly a million?

@googlecloud and @nvidia are preparing for the next phase of AI factories.

Google Cloud’s Vera Rubin-powered A5X infrastructure is scheduled for general availability in November 2026, with plans to expand into Europe and potentially scale to 960,000 Rubin GPUs across multiple sites.

This is not simply about building larger clusters.

The infrastructure is being designed for the workloads now shaping the AI economy: agentic AI, reinforcement learning, enterprise automation and increasingly complex inference. Early use cases already include David Silver’s Ineffable Intelligence and WPP’s agentic creative workflows.

The bigger question is how we translate this extraordinary computing scale into measurable economic value, while addressing power, cooling, security, governance and Europe’s continuing challenge around technological sovereignty.

The AI race is increasingly becoming an AI infrastructure race.

One question separates blockchain pilots from production: who do you sue when it breaks?

Every bank pilot succeeds on technology. Then governance review asks for a liability framework, a counterparty structure, and regulatory precedent. Blockchain has none of these natively. It te the intermediaries that provide them.

$27 billion tokenized on-chain. Nasdaq and NYSE targeting tokenized equities by 2027. The governance gap is now the single biggest bottleneck in institutional blockchain adoption. If you're evaluating tokenization plays, ask about governance frameworks before you ask about technology.

Who's closest to solving this?
