Never let anyone tell you that journalism doesn't generate change.
In November I revealed that Dutch Police reports undermined West Midlands Police's justification for banning fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv from Birmingham.
I also spoke to the Mayor of Amsterdam who disputed their account of events in her city involving Maccabi fans.
Further scrutiny exposed more inaccuracies.
- Their 'intelligence' report cited a football match that never happened.
- They were forced to apologise for wrongly telling MPs that this wasn't the result of a "hallucination" by artificial intelligence.
- They also retracted claims that the Jewish community backed their decision to ban Maccabi fans.
Today, after scrutiny by journalists like myself and @Gabriel_Pogrund and the tenacity of parliamentarians like @NJ_Timothy and @LordIanAustin , some accountability has finally been taken and the chief constable has decided to leave his position early.

Remember when Antoinette Fernandez (Green Party speaker of Hackney Council) bemoaned the British bombardment of Lagos, forcing her great great maternal grandfather from power?

She forgot to mention the reason why.

And you won't hear a single peep of apology from this lot about it.

The revealing admission in @mehdirhasan’s post - which he completely misses, accidentally or not - is that rising anti-Israel hatred fuels rising attacks on Jewish school kids, because they are Jewish.

They’ll tell you that they’re interested in justice. They’ll tell you that they’re on the right side of history. And they’ll tell you that they’re humanitarians. But just look at the responses to a 17-year-old Israeli football player. It’s barefaced, unadulterated racism.

A sensible Tory council would immediately produce a video urging Shell to relocate to their borough and take their jobs with them
Shell, with Headquarters in Lambeth, made £7.4 billion in 3 months 🤯

This is a climate emergency 🌍

We are asking Shell to contribute to Lambeth’s climate resilience plan, in proportion to its share of global emissions 💰

It's time they helped pay to protect Lambeth 🫵

I have often brought up the fact that Jihadi John went to a rival NW London school to mine!
I will say though I was on the ISIS-reporting beat for years and not one single one of my school cohorts joined ISIS, compared to several pupils doing so in some of the nearby (and nicer) schools. Still pretty pleased with that one tbf.

In the future, no-one will listen to any actual Jews, any antisemitism experts or any research into the subject.

They will defer entirely to Owen Jones, who has been obsessively trying to define Jewishness for Jews since he was a teenager
If a right wing commentator posted a 16-tweet thread trying to dismiss and undermine an official report into any other type of racism, Owen Jones would be the first to call them racist. But when it comes to antisemitism, he is first in line with the 'debunking'. What a hypocrite.

Seem to be quite a lot of people wanting to downplay the seriousness of this report.

Sad!

x.com/daverich1/stat…
For example: *every pupil* in a class at a Jewish school visited by the review had personally experienced antisemitism on their journey to or from school. That class is not exceptional. If this was about racist abuse towards black children, Jones would not try to downplay it.

Quite a turn of events that the Sally Rooney apologia isn’t the weirdest article published by the NS this week!
Owen Jones has, for the last three years, revealed himself to be a man of enormous courage, integrity and truthfulness. No one should think for a minute that his relentless defence of Palestinian rights and historical truth is easy or comes without heavy personal costs. Throughout the genocide in Gaza, Jones remained a tireless bur rigorous and supremely decent voice. I suspect part of what initially moved him was the strong displeasure in being treated like an idiot by the official propaganda – a noble motive in itself – but there is no question he has been genuinely touched by the images of suffering arriving daily from Gaza. And yet, how does his intellectual fixation on a battle between left and right help us understand the horrors of Gaza, or move us to stop them? My impression is that the opposite has happened. People look at what is happening in Gaza and ask themselves what a person on the right or on the left should think. In many cases this is ideology. In most, simply careerism and group association. Jones shows how limited the perspective really is. How about, like the author himself, asking how a human being should feel? How about returning to the world of facts and feelings rather than our endless Marvel franchise? newstatesman.com/culture/books/…

@lorintbc Pro tip: slander works best when it has slight connection to reality, whatever this is makes absolutely no sense and makes you look, honestly, quite mad.
