Identity != Ideology

Politics are about ideologies. The minute you conflate politics with identity you lose all grounds for productive discussion and debate. Ideas should be judged on the merits of their facts/arguments not on the merits of the person presenting them.

One day I'll finish and rollout all the products that I had ideas for over the years, even bought domains for, and even started working on since agents gave me that boost, but that none have passed even 20% towards completion… 🫣

So, I'm a huuuuge proponent of self-hosting, have owned servers and NASes for literally decades, but I was doing a bit of math, for fun…

- StorageBox (Hetzner), 20TB = 40€/mo
vs
- 5/6-bay NAS ≈ 800€
- (6x 8TB HDDs ≈ 2100€) OR (5x10TB HDDs ≈ 2250€)
- Electricity ≈ 100€/year

For a similar storage amount, assuming an operation of 8 years, with no disk failures (very optimistic!!), and assuming prices remain constant:
- StorageBox = 3840€
- NAS = 3800€

Now, I'm not saying one replaces the other (I have both, they serve different purposes), but most people don't understand why a NAS makes VERY little sense to most people today, even at larger (storage) scales. And this applies to most businesses too!!

PS: I purposefully didn't even include the Google Drive 5TB + AI for $20/mo, which would serve most FAMILIES (yes: you can share it with your Google Family), or Google Workspace with pooled storage…

Today we announce 1Password for Agents platform, building with companies @Muse, SpaceX Super Intelligence Grok @bot, @AnthropicAI’s @claudeai, @OpenAI, @TownAI, @browserbase, @browser_use, @heydana_ai, Instinct, @usekernel, @perplexity_ai, @tryramp, @tomo, and @wajo_ai, with e way. 🎉

We've heard from so many of our customers who want to use these new personal AI agents to help them get more done, but want more control over what the agent can access with the same trust and ease of use they get when using 1Password directly.

1Password for Agents gives your agents access without giving up your passwords. When an agent reaches a sign-in form, it requests a credential from your vault. If you approve the request, 1Password directly auto-fills the credential in the destination site so the agent can’t see or take possession of the credentials.

The agent gets the task done, but it doesn’t get your passwords..

You stay in control. 1Password for Agents free and optional for personal and family accounts. Unless you opt-in to an agent connector, agents cannot touch your vault.

A bit over a year ago, when I was leaving my previous employer, I had 200€ left to spend from one of my perk budgets (tech), so I bought a kit of 96GB RAM SODIMM (best investment EVER?).

Today, I got the rest of the kit… ;) #homelab

One important thing to consider if moving to first-party GUI/Desktop-based harnesses (aka Claude Desktop and ChatGPT/Codex Desktop): moving sessions between accounts and/or between harnesses is MUCH MUCH more complicated. I feel like this is one of the reasons they've been investing SO MUCH on their first-party GUI harnesses…

In my opinion, a self-hosted proxy + third-party harness (e.g. Amp, Pi, OpenCode, even Conductor, etc) should be standard for anyone who wants to control their AI usage and keep things portable and flexible…

The proxy is tricky because I understand why labs are weary of those (subscription abuse), but I think they should allow you to whitelist IP sources (even if just 1-2) and let you use a personal proxy, even if they limit an IP to just 2 subs, for example (like a work and a personal one)…

But more and more, even as someone who's really been a big proponent of the move to GUI for these harnesses (which is ironic since I'm a big CLI/TUI lover), the third-party harness is quickly becoming my #1 recommendation for everyone…

Full details of a remotely exploitable vulnerability in the core engine of *all* PHP versions will be released tomorrow, October 21st. If your organization has internet facing PHP applications then you need to be ready to patch the minute the update is released or *strongly* consider taking the application offline until you can:

php.net/index.php#2026…
🚨 PHP warns of two critical vulnerabilities as emergency patches arrive tomorrow

The PHP security team will release updates on October 21 at 14:00 UTC for two vulnerabilities, each rated 9.2 under CVSS v4.0.
⠀
Security researchers identified the flaws as CVE-2026-109618 and cribed them as remote code execution vulnerabilities reportedly affecting PHP versions 5 through 8.

PHP has not yet confirmed the affected versions, exploitation requirements or fixed releases.
⠀
The vulnerabilities were reportedly leaked before their planned disclosure. Researchers said they have not observed active exploitation, while PHP warned it may release the patches early if technical details become public or exploitation is detected.
⠀
Administrators should identify PHP installations now and prepare to apply the updates as soon as they become available.

So this is fun: spam/phishing email to a co-worker, they report & forward it to my team. All normal & expected.

But check out Gemini's summary at the top. 😳
I'm curious to find out how it got there… 😏

(is there someone at Google/Gemini security/safety around these parts? 🫣)
