Very handsome Patek 3417 available at Hairspring. This 1950s steel model was originally developed for X-ray technicians, atomic physicists, and engineers (nerds), so it has iron cover to resist magnetic fields. Technically a tool watch! The sister 3418 model is more affordable.

@dieworkwear Curious…have you seen a high quality analogue railroad watch with 24 hour markings (12-hour mechanism)? I had a Seiko that lasted a couple of decades; alas even after a rebuild it failed. Seiko doesn’t make it anymore. I value RR timepieces for their simplicity.

@dieworkwear Ironic that one of Patek's 'nerdiest' watches is also one of its most elegant. Such an understated piece.

@dieworkwear Patek launched the 3417 in 1958 as its first anti-magnetic watch made in series, steel only and 35mm, with maybe 500 to 750 ever built. The Milgauss and Ingenieur looked like lab gear. Patek made one you'd wear to dinner, and I think that's why it aged better.

@dieworkwear afford a PP, some vintage recommendations in the $150-500 range (most dead companies):
- Moeris Excellence
- Longines 291 or 30L
- Old Rodania
- Buren microrotors
- Cyma, Tavannes
- Anything w/ Lemania or Angelus
- Old Roamer
- Old Cortebert
- Old Enicar
... can go on for any specific niches (chronographs, divers, etc.)

@dieworkwear Back when Patek’s product was watches instead of “You’re one of the 0,01%”-tokens.

@dieworkwear I'm a bit curious on if you've written on watch straps before. I've had bad luck with resin straps on my usual watch (a GD-100, but that's beside the point) as of late and started wondering what can be done with nylon items.

@dieworkwear It's goodlooking watch.
I'd wear it if I wasn't poor.

@PulpLibrarian The most Nurd thing to do is to correct people that call you Nerd and spell it as in this poster, then quote it and spend 1 minute explaining. After that, giving the ISBN of the book to the person and pointing to the place in the building.
