@GaryMarcus Dario thinks they distilled a model that they haven’t released to the public yet? Sounds like they need to beef up their security.

Kimi K3.1 Pro is honestly super impressive for an open-weight model. On par with Fable 5.1 and Gemini 4 Argon.

Seriously, this is such an insane release, I did not expect this:
Kimi K3.1 Pro beats every listed US frontier model on 6 of 14 benchmarks in Moonshot’s evaluations.
At $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, its standard token rates are 50% below Opus below GPT-6 Astra ($10/$50!!)
In other words: SOTA much cheaper, local running (with enough compute)

the beauty of building on our platform: we just used the new CPU profiler on the worker behind d1
improved CPU utilization by 30% and improved RPS throughput for customers 🤯

we've been dogfooding this for a few weeks now and it's such an unlock for teams building on workers! no more mystery box
importantly — you can now find and profile a durable object!

Chinese guy has a better understanding of russia than "russia experts" who have been talking since the 90s

Trying to understand why a prominent Tory party member organising contract killings isn’t being given wall to wall coverage. The BBC hasn’t even mentioned it on their site.
🚨🇬🇧 Turning Point UK's CEO was filmed offering an undercover reporter a menu of beatings, stabbings and killings through a Glasgow contact who says he arms the UVF
Al Jazeera’s undercover operation started in 2021 when a reporter joined the British offshoot of the American Jack Ross, a Conservative candidate in 2023, introduced the reporter to Allan Nesbitt, a convicted criminal and self-described UVF member, agreed on camera to pay him to stage a fake pro-Zimbabwe rally, and priced out what Nesbitt’s friends could do to a person, from cutting faces to MURDER.
The UVF is the Ulster Volunteer Force, a Protestant loyalist paramilitary from Northern Ireland’s Troubles that killed over 500 people between 1966 and 1999, including 33 in one day in the Dublin and Monaghan bombings, and is still banned as a terror group.
Since the peace deal it has run mostly as a drug gang that kept the name and the guns.
Nesbitt reportedly met the reporter in a London hotel, offered to have a fictional business rival “finished,” claimed he’d personally stabbed a man to death, showed a shotgun and pistol on a video call and said the fee would buy weapons smuggled from Scotland into Northern Ireland.
Ross says it was a joke. The joke came with a price list, a weapons demo and a smuggling route, and the police now have a name and a video... and wasn't particularly funny.
Somebody in Turning Point UK’s donor base should be asking when the fundraising dinners turned into this.

@theo I'll give it a try as soon as they make it available on openrouter. Not paying Meta just to give it a try.

That said, I didn't realise these voting machines print out a paper ballot. I would be interested to know what that looks like and whether it gives a clear indication of the vote (rather than a bar code which isn't verifiable).
If it's clear, and this paper ballot is what the voters submit, then perhaps it's not as bad as I feared. I do wonder how much money it actually saves vs. a fully manually counted paper system though.

@KentonVarda It might not be real, but the fact the voting takes place on an electronic machine, which has the potential to fail in this way is enough to make it unsuitable for a healthy democracy.
@tomscott made a video on this and makes the point better than I can
