Much of what's wrong with this presidency flows from the fact that Trump views himself as the leader of a faction, not the head of state. Threatening to stop doing good things for Americans in a state if it votes for a Dem reflects that fundamental constitutional failing.

When he was on the ballot in 2024, his party couldn’t even win senate seats in states he won: AZ, NV, MI and WI. All he’s done is make himself more prominent in a year that he should be hiding from the rest electorate, à la Bush in ‘06 and Obama in ‘14, if he actually wants to minimize losses for his party.

This is why RFK Jr. has lost so much credibility. He wants choice on what he puts in his body but he wants to force HIS choices on the rest of us. How do we know? He judges folks who decide they want choice on how they choose to interact with society. The MAGA movement went from being a “freedom” movement when it started to becoming a very top down, “we know better” movement.

Such a weird message. Telling voters to suck it up and accept less. This is a message that has never worked with voters. Even the WWII rationing efforts for a good cause were very unpopular. And the “Just buy cheaper proteins” message, just a mistake. It’s what the MS GOP Senator said and it got turned into a viral attack ad. And now it’s in play.

Musk seems to go out of his way to invite a showdown with Gov’t. He has acquired so much power and influence, it’s inevitable there will be a growing majority of Americans who believe his influence should be curtailed. I think his outsized role this cycle is a net negative for the GOP fwiw.
