If you think Democrats really care about lowering gas prices remember that on the First Day of the Biden Admin they cancelled the Keystone XL pipeline and halted all new oil and gas leases.

Thank god we can find and intercept lost hikers as they mistakenly run away from rescue in dense forest!
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.

By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.

Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI. x.com/tokufxug/statu…

Honestly, a damn good idea given what the first 24-48 hours of a near peer war will look like.

It won’t be nukes- it will be cyberattacks aimed at logistics and comms that will absolutely tear the shit out of US infrastructure. Our military needs to be prepared to go low tech in a hurry.

What Lula and the Left did in Brazil, the Democratic Party will inevitably do in America.

They appointed their own partisan hacks to the bench in as many seats as possible, then appealed to the legitimacy of the courts even as they dismantled any semblance of impartiality. And f the courts, they used them to install a soft dictatorship that had the veneer of democratic legitimacy.

Any attempt to overturn this will now, ironically, be called an illegal coup. It's genius if you think about it. Abuse the constitutional order so thoroughly that your enemies' only remaining options to fix it are, by definition, outside the bounds of normal constitutional law.

This is exactly what the Democrats plan to do in America once they inevitably have the votes to pack the Supreme Court.
@NapoleonBonabot We are, quite literally, one democratic trifecta from becoming Brazil.

An oldie but a goodie. In 1968 a bunch of entitled hippy bastards sent a letter detailing their specious demands to the Warden and Fellows of Wadham College, Oxford. This was their letter of reply, which speaks to how far the academy has since fallen.

This is the correct take. Remember that "safety" is not just about avoiding death, but the ability to relax, shut your eyes, think about a project, or get lost in a book. Nobody should have to "remain vigilant" or "keep their head on a swivel" on public transportation.
The NYC subway is both safer than Fox News viewers would believe, but also unacceptably disorderly by any honest urbanist standard.

We must demand better.

It’s completely over for Brazil. The country will now experience Brazilification and turn into a terrible third world country like Brazil.
BREAKING: Lula overtakes Bolsonaro in Brazil's presidential election odds, now favored to hold on to power.

70% chance.

The “something” is that we’re in a world war.

It looks more like the Spanish Succession War (fought by small, professional forces for relatively limited stakes), as well as perhaps the round that preceded it (where the war of the Armada, the Dutch Warbof Independence, and/or the 30 Years War all featured irregular, mercenary, and proxy forces. And it also bears a strong resemblance to the collapse of the Soviet Union (with the positions tragically reversed). But it’s a world war.

And the bases are vulnerable to just about anything, not least including drone attack.

In a way, William Lind et al’s “Fourth Generation War” concept may have been more early than misguided. Before “4GW” was made synonymous with the GWOT after 9/11, and before Lind himself asserted that it should instead be understood as a “crisis of legitimacy of the state,” the actual article that inaugurated the concept understood it as a combination of “little green men” attacks involving deep strikes against infrastructure, and (speculatively) a broader concept of the opponent’s society being the target.

Ie, a little Putin and a little Chinese-style “Unrestricted Warfare” or “combination war.”

And, we see that in all sorts of ways.

This goes way beyond general national defense preparedness. This has the earmarks of something urgent and much, much larger scale than anything previously contemplated.

Preparations of this nature and magnitude would only be envisioned for an attack on America from a major global power as part of a world war.

Given the urgency with which Pentagon officials are announcing this initiative, I’m worried that they know something is coming and they’re not telling us…

Obama's whole thing was cheap healthcare. He campaigned on it and talked about it during his presidency.

Somehow, Obamacare made healthcare more expensive for everyone, but nobody talks about that.

They just talk about raising taxes to pay for more healthcare.
Barack Obama: "They are running scary ads to make you think Democrats are radicals, communists, jihadists, or the woke police. What is radical about wanting everybody to have healthcare? How is that radical?"

"Why do people building a civilization hate civilizational defectors?"

We may never know.
i understand why women dislike slutty women—the threat is obvious there. but why do men hate sluts so much? men should like sluts.

i can see someone having a preference for their own girlfriend to not be a slut (tho sluts have high libidos and know what they’re doing!), but why are men so mad about random girls being slutty? the only thing i can think is that they’re mad that the girl seemingly had sex with everyone except for them.

Not gonna dunk. Neil is a sincere guy with a good heart. But we must continually re-explain where things stand on immigration because it will take another two presidential terms to cement new norms. 1/n
Why are we even debating whether a man of good character with an American wife and American kids "belongs" in America?

Of course he does.

If the law doesn't welcome that, it's a bad law and it should be changed.

what are we even doing here lol

r/opensource just banned any project that uses AI.

By their own rule, that means the biggest open source project of all time, Linux, is now banned too. The kernel already accepts AI-assisted code.

yup

i'm honestly surprised this hasn't been used more

not the court packing, that's a big deal that draws a lot of attention

but a simple majority could strip lower courts' jurisdiction on anything it wants

any bill could have a one-line final section exempting it from review by any lower court
Everyone thinks it's Article V allowing the Constitution to be amended, but in reality it's Article III.

Theoretically, nothing stops a party with a majority in Congress and the White House from abolishing all lower courts, establishing new courts in their place, doubling the size of the Supreme Court, and, in doing so, gaining absolute control over the Judiciary at all levels of government and thus eliminating any opposition to whatever policies they'd like to impose.

You want to sue Congress when it grants sweeping powers to the President? The lower courts don't even stay the law.

You appeal to the packed Supreme Court? They refuse to hear the case.

You complain that the President and Congress have overstayed their term in office? The courts rule that the Constitution does not mandate Federal elections every two years during a state of emergency.

You take to the streets and protest? The President declares a state of rebellion and Congress suspends habeas corpus.

Any political party sufficiently united in its desire to completely destroy the political system, and having obtained even the slimmest majorities in both the legislative and executive branches, can essentially overthrow any republican system of government.

All of this is procedurally allowed. There is no constitutional order, including our own, that can ultimately guarantee its own continuation through constitutional procedures alone.

How do undocumented immigrants "live in our communities for decades" without being deported? My late father failed to sign the 2019 tax return that he mailed into the IRS during April 2020. This triggered a multi-year investigatory process involving multiple IRS employees. I had to respond to about 20 letters and phone calls, mostly with "Both of my parents are dead and I don't have any of their financial documents from 2019." At stake was about $6,000 that the IRS thought my dad had owed because they ignored his (filed-but-not-signed) return with all of the deductions, such as the medical expenses of two people in their 80s, listed. By the time the dust settled, the IRS decided that actually my father had been owed a $4,000 refund that he never got. 61% of undocumented immigrant households use welfare, which can easily be 100 times more expensive, over the years, than what was at stake with my father's 2019 taxes. How is it possible that we have had no mechanism for sending home the vast majority of those who have no legal right to be in the U.S.?
Today, the Fifth Circuit stripped immigrants facing detention in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi of their right to due process. People who have lived in our communities for years, even decades, can now be locked away with no chance to see a judge or ask for bond. It’s a radical departure from decades of legal precedent and violates the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution, which protects everyone.

This ruling leaves tens of thousands of people imprisoned without the government ever having to say why. It is wrong, and we will keep fighting.
