to be fair, crossing the Charles from Boston to Cambridge is essentially border control
I love that scene in Good Will Hunting where Ben Affleck is talking to Matt Damon's titular character Will Hunting and he's like “you've got a gift man and you've gotta get outta this town and make something of yourself” and the gift in question is being really good at math and the town he needs to get out of is Boston, Massachusetts.

I think the main reason women tend to scream far more often than men in scenarios where they are going to die is because the vast majority of them haven’t run thousands of scenarios in their heads where they die while men do this dozens of times per day as a matter of course so it’s far less shocking when it actually happens

My wife’ll show you the candy station on your way up the driveway and you can have all the snickers you want. But you have to say trick or treat. You see, Jarquavious, I can deal with the pillow case candy buckets and the faint odor of weed and the Bluetooth speaker playing in . I don't want money and I don't want medals. What I do want is for you to stand there in that faggoty Black Panther costume and with your public school mouth extend me some fucking courtesy! You gotta say trick or treat.

I really don't know which lunatic decided that a White kid born in 2005 owes the world an apology for something that happened 300 years ago

Slavery wasn't some White invention. Every civilization did it. Africans sold other Africans. The Arab slave trade ran for over a thousand years and enslaved millions. Nobody talks about that

And guess who actually ended it? The West. Britain banned the trade and literally sent its navy out to hunt down slave ships. That part somehow never makes it into the lecture

Meanwhile, slavery still exists today in parts of Africa and the Middle East. Mauritania only made it a crime in 2007. You will never see the outrage or the protests... Nothing but silence

But in the West, people are told to feel guilty for being born. Criminals get excused because "the system made him do it." Repeat offenders get arrested again and again and walk right back out. The victim gets forgotten and the criminal gets treated like the victim

Seriously, how did it get this bad? The same civilization that built the modern world and ended slavery is now tearing itself apart and calling it morality

You have no reason to feel guilty for things that happened centuries ago. You don't even remember what you ate last week

This isn't compassion, it's insanity
This is literally civilizational suicide

Slave morality normies believe the world owes them luxury just for existing. People don’t understand we’re already in a massive recession but the AI trade has been so aggressive it’s dragged the economy into the green alone; when the power goes out and the music shuts off, you aren’t getting a seat in the last city just because you’re a foid with a $200K debt UC biology degree, it will be a line item and themed package in your red light classifieds. The general public is so checked out, truly illiterate, deeply unethical and unprincipled, poisoned demoralized and medicated into zombie neurotics, years of extended boom times allowing an anti-maturity of neverending childhood entitlement, converging with their total sublimation into memetic holographic psuedoreality—hypercompetitive girardian debt-consumerism display arms race of foid SNS—they are completely unprepared for the crash of crashes waiting to come out from under them, when the hologram is clicked off and these “biologists” are market corrected into permanent generational debt slavery mining rocks under the sun and the years wasted on live laugh love Europe tours and sysco foodie slop served at $40 a meal and doordash fueled bedrotting is finally cashed in— automated video interviews for a service job are a luxury too good for them, those jobs are going to be outsourced to Malaysia tele-operating robots from a hotseat, and they’ll do better because they’ll be electrocuted in tapes sent to their families by the mafia scam enslavers if they break below 4.5 stars. Party’s over
This is such a bleak story about what it's like to try to land a job right now. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

one time binance wanted help with a token migration, waiting on call for their wallet guy and as he msgs 'sorry just sending you a test' we get an inbound ping [+$17m from Hot Wallet: 2] followed by "requested to join" from a hyperventilating man with the fear of god in his eyes
Binance was so incompetent handling this that @tether just froze Binance Hot wallet to prevent the hacker from sweeping more money Lmao

And good they did it as it prevented another $1M+ from being swept

We’re aware of reports of a potential incident affecting Binance-affiliated wallets.

Aave’s contracts are unaffected, and positions remain overcollateralized. As a precaution, all DAO-operated markets across V3 and V4 have been frozen.

The freeze pauses new deposits and borrows, and users can still withdraw and repay their existing positions.

Reese's Pieces have no chocolate in them. The peanuts had their oil pressed out and a cheaper fat put back in.

Sugar is first, then partially defatted peanuts, then hydrogenated palm kernel and soybean oil, then corn syrup solids. Everything after that is 2% or less, and it's the dyes, the glaze, some vanillin and a little milk. There's no cocoa anywhere.

Partially defatted just means the peanuts went through a press. The peanut oil comes out one side and gets sold as peanut oil. What's left is a dry peanut flour, and that's what the center is made from, because flour holds a shape in a panning drum and doesn't go rancid. Then they put fat back in, and the fat they picked is hydrogenated palm kernel oil, which is solid at room temperature and costs less than peanut oil. You can see the swap on the panel. 38 pieces have 6 g of fat and all 6 are saturated. Peanut oil is mostly unsaturated, so that number isn't the peanut.

The shell is sugar with 4 dyes and a coat of shellac.

Brazilian authorities and media are trying to find out where Flavio Bolsonaro is.

Brazil's notorious authoritarian Judge Alexandre de Moraes -- before the votes were counted -- already had an order prepared to seize Bolsonaro's passports and bar him from leaving the country even though **he's been charged with no crime** (there are various pending financial investigations). Moraes signed the order barring Bolsonaro from leaving Brazil SEVEN MINUTES after Lula was declared the winner on Sunday night.

A media outlet in Argentina this morning reported that Bolsonaro entered Argentina to fly to the US. His friends and allies deny this, but Flavio could easily just appear in Brazil or even by video and has not done so. Argentina is being sketchy, evasive and somewhat uncooperative with Brazil's federal police (Lula and Milei are obviously not allies).

Whatever else is true, it is not exactly a sign of a healthy, normal or functioning democracy when the candidate who narrowly loses a presidential race -- and concedes defeat -- is suddenly barred from leaving the country by a Supreme Court Judge now globally notorious for censoring, imprisoning and otherwise persecuting his critics and opponents of Lula's government. It is also worth noting that Bolsonaro's party dominates the Senate, having run on a vow to impeach Moraes, and this is seen by many as a kind of leverage/hostage ploy by Moraes to cling to power.

Immigration policy must be driven by the present, not the past, and business leaders are too terrified of the left AND the right to acknowledge this.

Recent H1B discourse revolves around a longstanding immigration sleight-of-hand. H1B proponents point to exceptional people who came here decades ago as if they represent the current state of the program in the same way that advocates for low-skill/illegal immigration point to very favorable immigrant crime/welfare/education/etc statistics that do, in truth, have them beating native-born Americans on many fronts.

It is all a sham. The world that created those statistics, people, and businesses no longer exists. Brilliant but desperate Vietnamese fathers who fled communism have nothing in common with young men from Honduras, and the crime rates/economic acccomplishments/integration of the former should not be used to justify mass migration of the latter.

Nor should the accomplishments of people who managed to get an H1B visa in the 90s (when the program was capped to just 65,000 visas) be used to justify staffing agencies and tech companies using the program to replace American jobs for less money. The obvious abuse going on is politically suicidal and something that even the most ardent supporters of the visa should want to crack down on, no immigration program can possibly survive the obvious and widely known reality of what is going on. I am a longtime outspoken advocate for stealing the best people from other countries to make our own better, runaway abuse of existing programs robs the government of the worker trust required to do so.

Lots of people in the tech space know this. Even the dumb people are smart enough to see it. Nobody actually believes these are all incredible people with unique talents performing jobs no American can. Everyone knows the guy in Cubicle Bay 7 doing mediocre but functional web design for half the salary of his American peers is no savant and doesn't meet the statutory requirements for his H-1B visa.

Unfortunately, most people with power or profile are terrified that any public statement or acknowledgement will get them attacked by the right (You guys have been screwing over American workers for years with visa abuse, you damn hypocrite!) or the left (You are racist, sexist, misogynist, and sucking up to this fascist administration!). Or, more likely, both. I know too many tech execs in particular who feel trapped, like the only winning move is to stay silent.

JD is blowing the whole thing wide open by putting facts and stats front and center that nobody wants to engage with. Critics will talk about anything and everything else but these damning facts and this obvious truth, that H1B visas serve neither their original purpose, legal purpose, invented purpose, or the American people.
Vice President JD Vance breaks down the data:

"If you are working as an H-1B visa in the United States of America, you’re earning $20,000 less than an American citizen hired in the same position. If you were brought in by one of these foreign outsourcing firms, you’re making erican citizen in a similar position. So I’m sure that everybody here understands the game that is being played. You bring in indentured servants from outside the country, you lay off American workers and, if you’re a corporation, you make a ton of money by under cutting the wages of American workers, replacing them with people who frankly shouldn’t be in the United States of America to begin with."
