Journalists have the right to publish classified documents from CIA or any other agency. They do so every day. There is nothing illegal about it. It's the basis for many of the most important journalistic exposés.

Neocons like this should stop trying to erode core US liberties:
Did @DropSiteNews knowingly publish illegally obtained classified CIA intelligence?

On October 5, the outlet co-published Aída Chávez’s story claiming a secret CIA assessment warned Israel could descend into civil war.

That date is now in an FBI leak affidavit🧵

Brazil's run-off election between Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro is tomorrow.

What happens to a political system when admitting error is vilified as weakness, refusing to apologize is venerated as courage, and shamelessness is embraced as a virtue?

The Ohio GOP candidate responded to widespread disgust over his campaign ad -- exploiting Amy Acton's elderly mother -- by doubling down.

In Brazil yesterday, Flavio Bolsonaro chose the opposite course after insulting Lula's factory injury. Link and video:

There were very few world leaders with the courage and principle to advocate for Julian Assange while the West relentlessly persecuted him for a decade for exposing their multiple grave crimes.

It won't matter to the average Brazilian voter in tomorrow's election (understandably so: most struggle to overcome basic deprivations), but Julian -- on the eve of Lula's last election tomorrow -- commendably recalls that Lula (for no real political gain) always crusaded for his freedom (Lula did the same for Snowden):
Lula vs. Bolsonaro: I was held in solitary confinement for 1,901 days for revealing the truth about the U.S. government's killings and espionage, including against Brazil and its industries. Out of power, Lula fought for my freedom. In power, Lula discussed my persecution with ed to meet with my family and offer help. After my release, Lula and I met in Rome to mourn the Holy Father's passing. Lula was kind to my children and asked for nothing in return. In contrast, Jair and Flávio Bolsonaro did nothing and said nothing. Yet without the ability to say no to Washington and Tel Aviv, there can be no domestic policy, only foreign instructions. Those orders are always the same: "Expand our theft of resources and wages, and keep your mouths shut about us murdering children." Sellouts will surrender everything in exchange for a cut, even their own tongues.

How does the US end up in all these disastrous Middle East regime change wars
Breaking news: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday night that the Iranian regime must be overthrown once and for all.

So long as the Iranian regime remains standing, Netanyahu said, Israel faces an “existential threat.” wapo.st/4z3cN9h

After the first round of Brazil's Presidential voting on Oct. 5, Bolsonaro appeared to be the clear frontrunner to defeat Lula in this Sunday's run-off after Bolsonaro's party crushed the left all over the country and Bolsonaro finished in first round ahead of Lula.

Since then, placent while the left got extremely energized to try to at least save the presidency. Polls have slowly but clearly tightened. Flavio is still probably the favorite but it's now more 60/40 or 55/45 than 80/20.

Lula, now 80, has run for President 7 times. If he wins, it will be his 4th victory. His party machine is ruthless and dirty and knows how to win. Lula is a generationally talented, shrewd, and charismatic politician. You can never count him out.

Every word in @TheAtlantic by the George W. Bush Presidential Center -- demanding the US keep financing war in Ukraine and accusing those opposed of "siding with Putin" -- is what Bush said about Iraq.

But I know: the latest war is always the noble one. It'll work this time:
"Surveys show that most Americans stand with Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia, view Putin as a dangerous threat who shouldn’t be trusted, and want to see the United States offer more assistance to Ukraine," writes David J. Kramer, Executive Director of the Bush Institute along with John Herbst and William Taylor, both former U.S. Ambassadors to Ukraine.

FINALLY: Someone brave enough to join the @ADL in denouncing one of America's greatest evils, one that we have endured since the start of the film industry in the early 20th Century:

The exclusion and marginalization of Jews in Hollywood. Solidarity, @SachaBaronCohen. 🙏
Sacha Baron Cohen on suspicion that the calls for a boycott of his new film, 'Ali G: Who Iz I?,' are tied to his past support of Israel:

"Well, I haven’t said anything about Israel. I think people are being portrayed as things that they are not on social media and it’s a world where people can’t distinguish between facts and lies, and that’s something that I’ve spent a lot of the last few years trying to fix. For example, I co-founded a group called Stop Hate for Profit with the NAACP and Color of Change and the ADL and certain other civil rights groups to stop the misinformation and incitement of racism on social media. So, I’m not surprised that prominent Jews are being targeted. I knew that this was going to happen. The level of organization is surprising, but this is a trend of Jews being portrayed in certain ways and trying to be silenced." bit.ly/4BpPgkz

❌💬 Why did so many liberals in the West become obsessed with online censorship?

Glenn Greenwald explains to Jim Webb: "In 2016, there was this dual trauma that was doled out to Western liberals," namely, Brexit in Europe and the election of Donald Trump in the United States.
The verdict is in. The reckoning is coming.

The Social Reckoning, a companion piece to The Social Network, is coming exclusively to theatres October 9.
