I wish my mother could have seen Georgia last night.

When she called on women to become the soul of the nation, she was asking us to help shape what this country stands for and how it treats its people. She spent her life putting those words into action.

I thought of her as came the first Black woman elected governor of a U.S. state. I thought, too, of the Black women who went door to door, registered voters and organized for years. Many did not live to see what they helped make possible.

Congratulations, Governor-elect Bottoms. Congratulations also to Penny Brown Reynolds, Georgia’s next secretary of state, and Tanya Miller, our next attorney general.

I’m thinking of the Black girls who will grow up seeing women who look like them lead Georgia. I pray they see what my mother saw in leadership: the power to make life better for others and the responsibility to use it.

Tonight, I make a solemn promise to every single Texan. Whether you voted for me or Governor Abbott, or felt so betrayed by a broken politics that you did not vote at all.

Hear what Texas said today, loud and clear: Your government belongs to you. And as your governor, I will will be no special set of rules for the wealthy and powerful. No looking the other way when someone in my own party does wrong.

The trust you have placed in me tonight is not a blank check. It is a sacred responsibility. And I intend to earn it every single day.

In molecular diagnostics, computer hardware is part of the test system under CLIA. Validated pipeline versions have to be tied to the assay that was run; the laboratory director approves code changes before implementation. Some accreditors require FASTQ, BAM, and VCF files for a minimum of 2 years. HIPAA requires audit trails for 6 years. Cloud and instrument vendors that store or transmit genetic information need a written business associate agreement even if they cannot unencrypt the data.

Schmidt, @PathByteChic, and colleagues (J Mol Diagn. 2025) map the hardware, software, networks, and interoperability requirements for bioinformatics inside a CLIA laboratory. The article is not legal advice.
