The nanny line is my favorite, but this is the second-best passage: "Ms. Holmes and Mr. Evans seemed convinced that the longer you spend with them, in the cozy kitchen, playing with the kids, walking the dog on the beach, the more you’d be hypnotized, too. How could you not be? For them, access was a conduit to a type of exoneration. They are salespeople. Their humanity is what they now had to sell." nytimes.com/2026/10/30/opi…

Portland is a cautionary tale of what happens when nobody pushes back on the people using national politics as a reason to destroy your local government and stop serving the citizens of your city

During the 2020 protests, during the death spiral that resulted from Measure 110 (the 2020 measure that decriminalized drugs), I wrote repeatedly about the coming downstream effects. Portland could’ve been the next great American city but for its own ostensible good intentions.
Portland’s Royal Sonesta: bought for $108.3M in 2016. Now reportedly sold for $6.83M for 220 rooms—just $31,000 per key. A staggering 93.7% price collapse.

This is what happens when government fails at public safety, downtown disorder spirals, Measure 110’s consequences go mah County’s mental-health system fails people in crisis.

Tourism doesn’t thrive where visitors feel unsafe and downtown businesses struggle to survive.

Portland didn’t get here by accident. Policy choices have consequences—and taxpayers, workers, businesses, and property owners are paying the price.

This guy is a devout Christian who was granted protection from his home country because Islamist terrorists are trying to institute sharia law. He's lived here half his life. He's married to an American & has American kids. This is not who the government should be targeting.
A Texas father who had lived in the U.S. for 25 years with no criminal record was finishing his night shift as an Uber driver when immigration agents detained him.

Without being able to speak to his lawyer or a judge, he was put on a plane and sent first to Ghana, a country e was then sent to his home country, despite a determination by a U.S. immigration court judge that he could not be deported there due to likely persecution. cbsn.ws/3Ude66r

The Trump corruption issue is like the Biden cognitive decline issue in one key sense: Everyone around the president or even supporting him professionally from afar should be asked about it, and their lies/claims of ignorance should be hung around their necks like dumbbells.

I … will probably do this. NY’s treatment of third parties has been execrable.
For the second consecutive gubernatorial election, New York voters are facing a general election ballot with only two candidates for governor, despite five political party lines.

Kathy Hochul appears on the Democratic and Working Families lines. Bruce Blakeman appears on the e, and Vote Affordable lines. Neither faced a real contested primary.

After the Libertarian Party of New York cleared the old threshold in 2018, Albany rewrote the rules. The bar is now high enough that alternatives are effectively locked out of the printed ballot.

The Libertarian Party of New York is calling for a statewide write-in of None of the Above.

This is not about electing a governor this cycle. It is a deliberate, countable refusal of a system designed to protect the two major parties.

If no one on that ballot cares about you, no one supports you, and no one deserves your vote, you should be able to say so.

Leave the printed candidates blank. Fill the write-in oval. Write “None of the Above” exactly.

After being laid up and incapacitated for the better part of the last few weeks, I'm running to play catch up on both overdue art orders and bills. So, I'm currently taking the best offer on all these original watercolor pieces. Please give 'em a look and pass it around. Thanks!
