PPS HAS A $65 MILLION BUDGET HOLE AND 450 JOBS ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK.
And somehow, the district wants us to believe this is primarily a pension-cost problem.
Let's stop making excuses. Falling birth rates, families priced out of Portland, declining enrollment, and parents fleeing a public school system that is failing to deliver acceptable academic results are all part of this crisis.
Oregon spends heavily on public education, yet its students continue to struggle with basic reading and math proficiency. When families lose confidence in the product, they find alternatives. That's not a mystery. It's a consequence.
Now Superintendent Kimberlee Armstrong says PPS may have to eliminate up to 450 positions. Two-thirds of those cuts could hit school buildings, reducing the educators and support staff available to students.
Meanwhile, closing 11–14 schools would save only about $1 million per building.
Here's the question nobody in PPS leadership seems eager to answer: How did a district with this much money, this many administrators, and this much political oversight end up here?
Stop blaming demographics and pension obligations as if they absolve leadership of responsibility.
PPS needs accountability, serious financial discipline, academic improvement, and a hard look at its administrative overhead and not another round of excuses while students, teachers, and taxpayers pay the price.

Mayor Wilson says the RV permit would hurt “traveling workers like nurses.”
We have spent six years and thousands of interactions with people living in RVs on Seattle streets. Not once has it been a traveling nurse. Not once.
Travel nurses have housing stipends. They’re not the ones parked for months in industrial zones with the trash, needles, and open drug use we clear every week.
The one-time census and permit is for the actual street population. Using traveling nurses as a reason to kill it is not serious.
People will do what they’re allowed to do. Right now Seattle is telling the region it’s fine to roll in and park an RV wherever you want. That has to stop.
We Heart Seattle is ready to run this as a private-public partnership. We’ve already shown what works: cleanups, direct intervention, and real pathways to recovery and self-sufficiency, without the city bureaucracy.
@MayorofSeattle the status quo is failing neighborhoods and at the worst children and women who are often trafficked in these dilapidated RVs. @SeattleCouncil

Celebrating Portland moving from 81st to 73rd in ULI/PWC real estate investment rankings is like bragging about moving from last place to second-to-last.
You're still in the basement.
Portland remains in the bottom 9% nationally, in a state struggling with education outcomes, nd job growth.
Apparently, this is what passes for economic leadership from Councilor Mitch Green: celebrate marginal movement while ignoring the economic wreckage surrounding you that had been made worse by failed DSA policy and virtue signaling ordinances that don’t create living wage jobs in Portland.
And what exactly qualifies him to lecture anyone about business? Where is his private-sector track record of value creation? His own much-publicized hot-dog stand venture reportedly never got off the ground because of his gross incompetence while he ignores timely payment of his real property-taxes and compliance with fire restrictions.
Portland doesn't need another academic exercise in economic denial. It needs leaders who understand how businesses actually operate, create jobs, attract investment, and pay the taxes that keep this city running.
Moving from 81st to 73rd isn't a victory. It's an indictment of how low the bar has fallen.

Downtown Portland is facing a DIRE economic situation, and the collapse in hotel property values should be setting off alarm bells at City Hall.
Over the past several months, three Portland hotels have reportedly changed hands at staggering discounts from their previous purchase prices:
- Kimpton RiverPlace: Purchased for $65 million in 2015; reportedly sold for $11 million — an approximately 83% decline.
- Hotel Zags: Purchased for $47.5 million in 2013; reportedly sold for $10 million — an approximately 79% decline.
- Royal Sonesta: Purchased for $114 million in 2016; reportedly sold for $6.83 million — an astonishing 94% decline.
And hotels aren't the only warning sign. Downtown office properties are also trading at deeply distressed prices, in some cases for pennies on the dollar compared with their previous valuations.
These aren't signs of a thriving real estate market. They're evidence of a downtown economy under extraordinary pressure, with serious consequences for property owners, lenders, investors, employees, and the city's tax base.
Yet Councilor Mitch Green appears to celebrate incremental improvements in investment rankings without adequately confronting the scale of the losses occurring right in front of him.
Let's be clear: a distressed asset sale is not an economic-development victory. A collapsing property valuation is not progress. And pretending otherwise doesn't make the underlying problems disappear.
Portland needs leadership that understands how capital, property values, businesses, jobs, and tax revenues are connected—not ideological talking points that confuse economic distress with success.

Vote down ballot for GOP candidates for state senate and state representative. Help us get out of the super minority. Balance in the legislature is needed.

Viewer discretion advised. This is a 3 minute real time replay of the Florida Learjet 60 crash, with the uncut ATC audio.
It pulls together public ADS-B, weather radar, satellite, dashcam and drone video onto one timeline.
Here's what we know as of Nov 2 based on OSINT and - Went from ~35,000 ft to impact in ~78 seconds
- Flew into a string of thunderstorms
- Crew reported ice and turbulence; asked to climb then issued a mayday
- All nine aboard are deceased, with one person injured on the ground
- Plane debris spread across half a mile and still being recovered
- NTSB says there is some evidence the jet broke up before impact
- Weather at altitude is a key focus of the investigation; but the official cause is still TBD
I make a lot of 4D reconstructions and this is the most visceral and gut wrenching thing I’ve heard in a long time. My heart goes out to the families of those on board. Important to note that the details so far point to severe weather at altitude rather than a missile or air defense system.

Free speech means nothing if you only defend it for people who agree with you.
The assault at the University of Michigan is a disturbing example of the hypocrisy that can emerge when political activism becomes more important than basic principles.
According to the account hog—a human-rights activist who has publicly criticized the Chinese government—was arrested after allegedly assaulting and threatening a Jewish student over political disagreement.
If the reported conduct and threats are substantiated, the contradiction is staggering: publicly championing human rights while allegedly using intimidation and violence to silence someone expressing a different opinion.
You cannot demand freedom from authoritarianism while denying others the freedom to disagree with you.
Political disagreement is not an excuse for assault.
Being offended is not a license to intimidate. And no political cause, identity, or human-rights platform puts anyone above the law.
The same principle applies to the reaction to Charlie Kirk's assassination.
Celebrating political murder is morally indefensible, regardless of the victim's ideology.
If your commitment to free speech disappears the moment someone disagrees with you, it was never a commitment to freedom.
It was a demand for ideological conformity.

🚨Portland: Honduran National Unlawfully Residing in the United States Sentenced to 17½ Years in Federal Prison for Selling Fentanyl that Resulted in a Fatal Overdose
PORTLAND, Ore.— A Honduran national unlawfully residing in the United States has been sentenced to 17½ years e followed by five years of supervised release, for his role in distributing fentanyl that resulted in the September 2023 fatal overdose of a 30‑year‑old Milwaukie father, fiancé, and son.
“The defendant came to this country illegally and chose to profit from poisoning our communities,” said U.S. Attorney Scott Bradford. “His actions cost a young father his life, and today’s sentence reflects the seriousness of that choice. This office will continue to pursue significant penalties for those who violate our immigration laws and traffic fentanyl into our communities.”
Cristhian Martinez, 21, pleaded guilty on May 6, 2026, to conspiracy to manufacture, distribute, and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and alien in possession of a firearm.
According to court documents, Martinez was part of a conspiracy operating a fentanyl manufacturing and distribution hub from his residence in Gladstone, Oregon. On Nov. 16, 2023, he was stopped while driving back from California with more than a kilogram of fentanyl in his vehicle. A subsequent federal search warrant at his residence led to the seizure of additional fentanyl powder and counterfeit pills, a pill‑press operation, cutting agents, thousands of dollars in cash, and nine firearms.
As part of his plea agreement, Martinez admitted supplying fentanyl to another dealer who later sold the drug to the victim, who consumed it and died on Sept. 26, 2023, from acute fentanyl toxicity. At sentencing, loved ones described the victim as a loving and devoted father, fiancé, son, and coworker.
The dealer who sold the fentanyl to the victim has also been charged, and his case is pending. The dealer who purchased the fentanyl from Martinez, and then sold it to the victim, told investigators he had purchased between 30 and 50 pounds of fentanyl powder and more than 100,000 counterfeit pills from Martinez over an 18‑month period. Thirty pounds of fentanyl is equivalent to an estimated 6.8 million potentially lethal doses.
Given Martinez’s large‑scale trafficking activity, possession of multiple firearms, and admission that his conduct resulted in the victim’s death, federal prosecutors said the sentence was necessary to send a “clear message to the defendant, other fentanyl dealers, and the community that such conduct will not be tolerated.”

Why is @UMich silencing this? This woman assaulted me and @teameffujoe , resisted arrest, and threatened to KILL ME.
The fact that the police let her out of custody is absolutely insane to begin with. And now the fact @UMich as let her back onto campus. and is silencing people is unfathomable. She is a DANGER to students. She is someone who has been institutionalized and is on multiple SSRIs.
If I were a parent at this school, I would IMMEDIATELY remove my child.
When I went to the ER yesterday, I was told by the physician that assaults are very common on this campus.
This is an absolute disgrace.
