Receiving a letter like this should be a cue to leave immediately. A voracious state is sizing up everything you have, with the intention of punitively snatching it if you dare to try and escape their clutches. Sinister stuff.
HMRC has quietly sent hundreds of letters to wealthy people asking them to reveal what they own. Not what they earn or what tax they've paid, but what they own.

Here's what's going on. A unit called the Wealthy Team covers anyone with "incomes of £200,000 or more, or assets n any of the last three years". That's about 850,000 people. The letters ask for a meeting to discuss "sources of wealth", "future intentions", trusts, companies, family arrangements and even "significant life events" you expect in the coming years.

It is presented as voluntary, but there's a nudge: "We may still need to carry out compliance checks on your tax returns. However, speaking with you first may help avoid this."

Until now, inspectors have usually only asked about income and earnings. Experts call this a "sea change". One lawyer asked the obvious question: "does HMRC have a right to know what someone owns and not simply that they have paid the right amount of tax?" A tax adviser said: "No other G20 country asks for this level of detail from its taxpayers about what they own."

So what is it for? Advisers suspect it is groundwork for an exit tax, a charge on your wealth for leaving the country. As one put it: "Building that knowledge could indeed be part of moving towards an exit tax."

You don't have to be a billionaire to see the problem.

For those looking into Starlink Mini for internet redundancy:

1. Buy directly from Starlink site for $150.
2. You will need to pick a plan so pick cheapest at $55/mo
3. Right after purchasing hardware you can change your plan to standby mode which is $10/mo. If you do this hardware you won't be charged $55 for first month or any other month after.

So effectively you spend $150 for hardware and $10/mo for standby mode which includes basic usage and ability to upgrade later without needing another internet connection. Worth it for the optionality.

Wow 😲
The Model YL carries more people, same cargo as the R2, has a smaller battery and is much more efficient, is the safest car and the only one that can drive itself

Meanwhile, the R2 has worse efficiency than a Lexus 😳

They call the Rivian R2 an adventure car with a 212 the Tesla Supercharger Network, the Rivian R2 would be unusuable with those range numbers.
This may be the toughest real-world data point for the Rivian R2 so far.

Out of Spec Testing ran the R2 Performance, BMW iX3, Tesla Model Y L and Lexus RZ side-by-side at a GPS-verified 70 mph on the same day, starting at 100%.

Final highway range:

• BMW iX3: 339.7 miles
• Tesla Model Y L: 286 miles
• Rivian R2 Performance: ~212–213 miles
• Lexus RZ 450e: 189 miles

And the efficiency numbers explain why.

• Model Y L: ~3.5–3.6 mi/kWh, 81.1 kWh used
• BMW iX3: ~3.0 mi/kWh, 112.7 kWh used
• R2: ~2.45–2.46 mi/kWh, ~86.8 kWh used
• Lexus RZ: ~2.8 mi/kWh, <70 kWh used

The BMW went the farthest largely because it had a massive usable battery.

But Tesla was the real efficiency winner.

The Model Y L used less energy than the R2 and still went roughly 73 miles farther.

That’s the part Rivian needs to improve.

There is an important caveat: this R2 Performance was running 20-inch all-terrain tires, so this should NOT be treated as the range of every R2 configuration.

Temperatures were also around 50°F / ~10°C, with some wind — cool conditions, but definitely not a brutal winter test.

R2 wasn’t bad at everything either.

The reviewers still really like the vehicle itself, and its DC charging performance has been solid. In the companion comparison, they measured roughly 230 kW and under 30 minutes from 10–80%.

But fast charging only solves part of the equation.

If you consume significantly more energy per mile, you still stop more often on a road trip.

That’s why I think the conclusion here is pretty fair:

BMW won range.
Tesla won efficiency.
R2 still wins a lot of people over with design, space and driving character — but highway efficiency is clearly one area $RIVN needs to improve.

But this is exactly the kind of weakness Rivian should attack aggressively as the platform evolves.

Heads up @grok @bot team:

There is an incredibly gnarly memory leak in the Grok Bot shared computer. The process “host-main.cjs” grows rapidly, eating up 14+ GB or RAM within minutes… rendering the shared computer unusable for most purposes (even after updates and restarts).

Also… nested KVM is broken. Which is also a big blocker.

Any idea what’s happening, @poteto? I assume your team is already aware, but figured I’d reach out just in case! (I also emailed the support bot.)

Keep up the great work, btw!

@ondrejslunecko That’s not how inflation works. If the source of wealth is debt or money printing as stimulus then you get inflation. The transfer of share ownership from one person to millions of kids is an all around epic initiative that should be universally celebrated.

🛰️ @elonmusk wants 10 gigawatts of compute by the end of 2027. @JensenHuang says Nvidia now counts @SpaceX alongside its cloud provider customers, and the two companies' engineers are designing a server for space:

"In the two parts of our chart, Elon used to be under enterprise. ted the numbers. Now he's part of our CSPs... They're massive.

He's using our technology for his own AI in training models and such, deploying models, of course... And the demand for GrokBot, the consumption for GrokBot is really skyrocketing. And then, of course, he rents it. And so the combination of these three things, he's fairly unique in doing that...

He loves the intersection between computing and the physical build-outs... And nobody knows more about energy than he does.

And one particular new market that we're going to go explore together is putting data centers out in space. So our two engineering teams are working super closely together to create a new type of server, a new type of architecture that might be super good... in space and on Earth."

@ZacksJerryRig You did say it, but it isn't true. This is a performance car, the whole point is to accelerate, turn, and brake at a higher level of performance than a typical car.

Larger engines, better brakes, active aero etc are definitely not useless, they define the entire category.
