owned a weighty "spy's handbook" as a kid that included a bunch of rudimentary cryptography and how to do disguises and etc and i remember being struck by the idea of a "dead drop" & what would happen if someone randomly found it, & it ended up in a misinterpretation loop 🫣

i remember deciding that dead drops were too dangerous, if only for opsec reasons, and you never know who is picking up what or if the correct message was received, and more direct comms had better chances of getting secret messages to the right place

Almost half of public health funding (46.4% or $14.8bn) is now funnelled to the private sector, which has consumed 80% of the new funding over the last two years. Read our new report to find out 'Who owns our health system' publicfuturesaotearoa.nz/blog-1-copy-1-…

It's been known from the beginning that every single nation in the region and beyond has the capabilities to support Gaza in more than useless, empty statements. It has also been known that not supporting Gaza was a conscious decision they made. It was left to the Resistance groups and Iran to do something meaningful for Gaza.
God-willing, those who stand by and watch as Gaza is starved and obliterated will bear the consequences of their neutrality, for it is as Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said: The cost of steadfastness and Resistance is far less than the cost of submission, compromise, and surrender.
And by the way, we do not hate on the Egyptian regime enough.

I have just published a piece that is very important to me. It's about why so many "progressives" and people on "the left" are lying to us right now about crime, safety, and repression, and what we should be doing instead. equalityalec.substack.com/p/why-is-every…

Hipkins REALLY fucking failed in ostensible role as leader of the opposition. Literal main function should have been to give people hope the government can be kicked, & drive people to organise to enroll & turnout to vote. Should be positive news EVERY DAY in this vein. Instead..

They know how unpopular privatisation is to most New Zealanders, who have seen the disastrous impacts of privatisation in electricity, banking, transport, prisons, housing and many others. Openly running on asset sales would guarantee a one-term government.
The National Party said they would take privatisation to the election. They’ve gone silent on it.
They did not campaign on cancelling pay equity or the ferries, means testing jobseeker benefit, increasing social housing rents, selling state houses, repealing smoke free, etc etc

feels here in NZ we're too focused on discourse management, & trying to *influence* power, rather than building power. there is often a lot of *energy* for radical or revolutionary politics, but I really think we need more people who get excited by, for eg, how a cannery operates

Despite how happy I am for Brazil, the hypocrisy of the international applause is hard to ignore. The same actors cheering Lula’s 4th term called Chávez a dictator for it and vilified PSUV for “human rights abuses” while turning a blind eye to Lula’s troops committing rape and war crimes in Haiti. Lula is afforded their sympathy because he maintained neoliberal economics, played nice with Noboa and Jolani, blocked Venezuela from BRICS, and aligned with U.S. intervention abroad. This election result is, without a doubt, a victory for the sovereignty of Latin America against egregious election interference. But not all those applauding are cheering for our sovereignty. And, as yet another Latin American country joins U.S. mercenaries in Haiti, it’s pretty gross that certain ‘human rights activists’ (especially the Latin American pachamama libs) ignore the stain on humanity that was MINUSTAH simply because it was in service of the U.S. interests.

Seems like Vučić abandoned a coup cause his losing margin was too big. Sim to Bolsonaro's push to annul Brazilian election being doomed by the size of Lula's lead + Trump admin scaling back election theft plans in the face of a blue wave. But what happens next time it's close?
Before conceding, Vučić deployed police and gendarmerie around key state buildings, switched off the lights, and allowed Ćacilend to reappear. Then, two hours later, he conceded.
So, what happened in Belgrade between 7 and 9 p.m. on 25 October? New post:
