Imagine the world without @elonmusk. We don’t deserve him.
Elon Musk reportedly invests $1 billion in the parent company of CNN and CBS News, gaining an ownership stake in both networks.

I'm happy to see this kind of take.

This tracks with the kind of horrendously overblown psychotic anti-ai takes I see here on X.

Treating AI as if it's some kind of poison is pure ideology, coming off exactly as unhinged as it is, this shrill unreasoning harpy scream instead of is exactly what will tank this attempt at persuading people against AI.

The best thing is, they can't reverse course. Their rhetoric demands more and more, faster and faster.

Bookmark this for when the whole edifice collapses and they pretend they never wished death on any of us.
We have origin and/or "ingredient" labeling for most kinds of consumer products. It is an anomaly that software has not been required to have such disclosures. I think it's very reasonable to require AI use to be disclosed, as well as other information that may be relevant.

Had breakfast with @JossMonzoni this morning. He’s an incredible artist using generative AI to tell stories that matter. His film, The Fall is one of my favorites. It’s become even more timely since he released it. Give him a follow.
“THE FALL” the complete film is out.

It’s incredible to see that something that lived in your head for months now has to go live here on X for everyone to enjoy.

“THE FALL” is a story about good and evil, and about courage, and about what it costs to be free. A year ago it ry I told myself. AI is the only reason it’s a film instead.

Streaming now. 🤩

Heck yeah. CapCut partnered with Massive Studios to do three Christmas Specials like we grew up with. 30+ artists working on these specials. Generative AI is generating the footage for a traditional production pipeline. All three will be streaming on Christmas Eve. #capcutworld

It’s like talking to a compulsive liar who’s just making everything up as he goes along.
We made the first AI model you can have a realistic conversation with that was trained entirely on speech!

Dessa is a full-duplex speech-to-speech model that you can run on consumer GPUs.

This is a GPT3 moment for speech.

Every argument against generative AI on the basis of artistry could just as easily be said about plenty of content with no AI.

Is there not soulless slop everywhere you look? Has that not been the case for decades already?

Maybe we see what some independent visionaries can come up with when given the right tools and left to create to the limit of their imagination.
“Wildwood” director Travis Knight calls AI an “amazing piece of technology” but says, “I’m not embracing it at all.”

“I see technology as a tool, and we use technology at Laika. A pencil is technology, a paintbrush is technology, a 3D printer is technology. Technology is useful hands of people, when you put it in the hands of artists who can amplify their voice."

“Technology is not useful when it takes the place of the artist, and that’s the concern with generative AI,” he continued. “It’s an amazing piece of technology, but the concern is that when it supplants the artist, then we have an issue because the computer cannot speak about humanity at all. It doesn’t know what it feels like.”

16 years to tell the same story the rest of Hollywood has been cranking out year after year. Give me fresh stories that are AI-generated over meticulously handcrafted slop any day of the week.
Wildwood: a beautiful fantasy love letter to everything that makes Portland awful

Terrible writing
All males are weak except the black guy
Every race imaginable in the small bandit community
Worldbuilding unintelligible, incoherent
Girlboss Mary Sue has most events handed to her or they would happen the same without her
No character growth
Parents are actually drugged by their daughter to prevent the father from helping save his own son
Obligatory gay couple, interracial couple
Sympathetic villain
Tree worship, the hippies are right
Angela Bassett

If you're going to invest 100 million into beautiful claymation, tell a decent story.

Everyone in Hollywood is asking whether A.I. is coming for their job.

It is, make no mistake. Resistance is futile.

But this does not spell doomsday. Used well, A.I. is a tool for filmmakers, lowering the barrier to entry for cinematic scale once accessible only to the biggest studios.

That means a first-time director can pitch with a proof-of-concept instead of a lookbook, and voices that only dreamed of studio budgets can finally compete on the screen.

Cheaper and faster production means movies reach profitability sooner. Sooner profitability means more greenlights. More greenlights means more movies, and the snowball keeps rolling.

That doesn’t mean the transition will be painless. Some jobs will change and some will disappear. New ones will emerge. The evolution of Hollywood continues.

As I keep saying: when anyone can make a Hollywood-level production, the only stories that resonate through the noise will be those executed at the highest level.

Story, character, and execution matter now more than ever.

Long live the movies.

Next project.
So I’ve now grabbed an old Amazon Echo Dot 2nd generation and over 10 years old and rooted it like I did with the Fire tablet. Now my Grok Bot is building out a dedicated solution on it to make it the voice of my top level Chief of Staff Charlie over wireless. This will enable to commands and more anywhere in my house without needing a computer or phone. Doing this on my Omarchy Linux laptop with the help of Grok Bot.
