Hey everyone! Hugely grateful for the peers I’ve made on here & that anyone was interested in my thoughts. Can’t believe I somehow got over 10k followers when there are way more deserving accounts. Anyway, if I am more active, it’s going to be on Bluesky: bsky.app/profile/genref…

UK/US: Our latest Kinji Fukaksaku yakuza classic is the director’s swansong to the genre and one of his very finest films.

#Shocktober Death Car on the Freeway (1979) - Needham and Baxley bring their vehicular mayhem to this CBS movie about a freeway killer who hates female drivers. Wildest part: it’s 100% a giallo - the unseen killer even dons black driving gloves when he goes for the kill.
#Shocktober Castle of Otranto (1977) - Svankmajer tackles the classic (and very fun and very weird) gothic novel with a kooky meta-narrative about how the story must truly be based on a Czech location. With a perfect finale.

Would never expect the DiscussingFilm admins to be familiar with junky Taiwanese actioner Red Pirate (1997) but folks interested in a Ke Huy Quan “leading role in an action film” predating this project by decades should check it out
First look at ‘LOVE HURTS’, Ke Huy Quan’s first leading role in an action film.
In theaters on February 7, 2025.
(Source: ew.com/ke-huy-quan-lo…)Community noteKe Huy Quan’s first starring role in an action film was in 1997’s Red Pirate

Men will literally [create a four-part STUNTNUTS movie series] instead of [awarding stunt performers with an Oscars category]
EXCLUSIVE: Chris Hemsworth and Sam Rockwell are “helping out” their stunt-world buddies in the first of an initial four-part movie series called ‘Stuntnuts’ – yes, it’s a palindrome- which are being made under Matthew Vaughn’s Marv Films banner deadline.com/2024/09/chris-…

Not unlike a revenant rising on All Hallow’s Eve, if there’s one thing that’ll get me energized is a new Timo bloodbath next month. Oh, and another 31 Days of Horror! My watchlist of entirely new-to-me films for 2024: boxd.it/nSmeq

Only took me 23 years to finally watch the deliciously ridiculous DTV actioner SHADOW FURY (Makoto Yokoyama, 2001), and man... some of these wire pulls are insane. How many backs did they break on that set? Masakatsu Funaki sure had the moves.

Just discovered acrobatic tap dancer Miriam LaVelle, and my jaw is on the floor. Front flips and rotational handstands in high heels. Bring back musicals with this energy please. 😭
Somehow she only made a handful of films... This is from SEVEN DAYS ASHORE (John H. Auer, 1944).

Just to prep you for The Shadow Strays ;
There are almost twice more action set pieces in this film compared to The Night Comes for Us.
Dunno how that happens.

The Roundup: Punishment (2024)
Directed by: Heo Myeong-haeng
One of the most exciting elements from this year's Roundup for me was the dynamic, knife-fighting duo of Kim Mu-yeol and Kim Ji-hoon, utilizing some gnarly but slick combinations of boxing and grappling with stabbing🔪
