Aristotle says that arguing with random people is a waste of time because the average person doesn't know how to argue and therefore will not help you become better at it (let alone help you clarify a point). A nice thought to post on the "argue with random people" app.

Technology has made rage cheaper to produce and easier to find. When we blame big business or social-media algorithms, we dodge the tougher question—not who sells the rage, but why we keep buying it, writes @EthanT17888

O for a muse of fire and smart board!
O for a muse of fire and smart board!
From the high schools of France to the streets of Madrid to the universities of Tirana, young people are telling their governments the same thing: in an age of massive wealth inequality, they want a future they can believe in.
In France, students and teachers are asking for safe schools, enough teachers and smaller classes.
In Spain, for affordable rent and housing.
In Albania, for good jobs and an end to corruption.
@JDVance says this is what happens when a nation lets in too many immigrants from the global south.
He is not just morally wrong, but misreading the moment.
The is what happens when nations let wealth and power accumulate in the hands of a few.
This is what happens when young people lose hope in their future.
In America, let us listen to our young.
We need an economic and political transformation.
America's Next New Deal.

These people are so dishonest/retarded man. The issue isn't that Mark Zuckerberg would have been deterred. The issue is that Peter Thiel wouldn't have $500K lying around to invest in a pre-revenue company. These people really want to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
“The idea that Mark Zuckerberg was sitting in his Harvard dorm room and would have been deterred from starting Meta if the capital gains tax rate was slightly closer to the ordinary income tax rate strikes me as categorically absurd,” argues @NatashaRSarin, professor of law at Yale Law School.

99% of the books worth reading are free online via Project Gutenberg, Internet Archive, etc. Describing our declining literacy as a materialist problem is Marxist humbuggery.
Everyone blames screens for the decline of reading.
Nobody blames the consolidated corporate publishing industry that made books pricier, more generic, and harder to find. jacobin.com/2026/10/books-…

An outstanding analysis from @MelMitchell1 of the Hugging Face hack and "agent swarms". Beyond her event analysis, a much-needed reminder not to use anthropomorphizing language about AI.

This evening I was reading the section of a hyper-partisan left-wing book about how Democrats should destroy the Supreme Court for being full of sycophantic Republicans when this news alert flashed across my Kindle.
Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh blocked a Missouri congressional map favoring Republicans, a rare defeat for the GOP in a nationwide redistricting war ahead of the midterms. wapo.st/3ToOOBL

I'm all for criticizing the AI companies when merited, but what was Anthropic supposed to do differently here?
Anthropic Is building a surveillance system to monitor activists using a “pre-crime” approach that tries to predict incidents before they happen.
The extensive monitoring system that the AI company is building is aimed primarily at keeping tabs on activists who oppose the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

Here’s the relevant part of the Harvard dean’s email, in which he suggests (“modestly”) that professors teaching writing intensive courses should encourage AI use. And of course this gets dressed up in woke moralizing about policing students and damaging “trust.” End times stuff.
Last month I reported on Harvard's shuttered writing center. The official line was that the closing of the center was not about de-valuing writing. Now Harvard's dean—David Deming—is calling for "AI acceptance or even encouragement" in writing courses. 1/
