Remember the cry of #SuperFlu - how we were in for a torrid winter because of a mutated strain of #H3N2? A wise scientist told me predicting flu was like trying to predict a snowflake's path. Here's the latest UKHSA data. Medium activity, decreasing...

It was such a pleasure to work on this wonderful project with the talented @Nitzan_T !
📢Preprint out!
Excited to share my final work from the @SorekLab!

We mined phage dark matter using structural features shared by anti-defense proteins (viral tools that help phages bypass bacterial immunity) to guide discovery.

Found 3 new families targeting immune signaling!

Real-world evidence -> probiotic associated with lower mortality, but not lower NEC

Stands in contrast to Donor Human Milk -> reduces NEC but not mortality

= Different
(1) disease mechanisms
(2) actions of interventions

Emphasising
"NEC" is not single disease
Real world evidence that probiotics used in the preterm population associated with reduced mortality - consistent with high level RCT evidence of survival benefit @peri_prem @PERIPremCymru

Fantastic opportunity to go and work with Tim at @NEB. Great science, exciting location. Very few jobs come up like this!!
The lab is now up and running at New England Biolabs @NEBiolabs! I'm looking for a postdoc to study phage defence systems. If you'd like the academic freedom to publish but the resources of industry, then take a look 🤓😃 neb.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/NEB_Care…
