When I was an options MM in Korea, the retail UI was arguably worse than Deribit’s.
Nevertheless, Korean retail traders accounted for ~33% of KOSPI 200 options trading at that time.

Retail traders still figured it out.

Same with Robinhood, Schwab, and brokers across China and India. Options aren’t “too complicated” for retail. With enough education and FOMO, people learn fast.

Crypto CT is used to perps, so naturally everyone wants to make options look simpler.

But we’re increasingly focused on a different crowd:

Stock options traders.

If you trade options in the US, Korea, China, or India and want to trade US stock options without border restrictions DM us.
Might be a hot take, but I think we're overly infantilizing "retail traders" in general, but especially regarding the whole options UI/UX debate

In an age of agentic trading and increasingly sophisticated retail traders, dumbing things down isn't the same as making options trading easier or more accessible.

A big point to make here is that the on chain options sector as a whole, and particularly @DeriveXYZ here, actually benefits quite a bit more from builder codes and 3rd party front ends than perps platforms do.

Perps UI/UX is largely solved imo. You can't really get much better than @HyperliquidX or @Lighter_xyz. Alternative front ends are cool for distribution, but the actual UI/UX is largely the same, and nobody really wants that to change much.

Conversely, the "ideal" front end UI/UX for options is highly subjective.

I love seeing the order book and I glean information from it. You might find it to be information overload and seizure inducing. I like a certain style of visual payoff simulator, you might prefer a written description.

I've talked to a half dozen different teams who are building on top of @DeriveXYZ V3, and the opportunity for real differentiation and growing the pie is massive. Some are focusing on simpler UI/UX, some are looking at a more modular one, others are building prepackaged payoffs and structured products where the user doesn't even entirely know they're using options.

A huge part of my @DeriveXYZ bull case is that a lot of you seem to think traders are too dumb to use options, without taking into account the rise of LLM idea generation with agentic execution and the alternative front end boom that's about to happen.

What if the market being "closed" was never actually about the market?

For years, I thought options were a weekday, 9:30 to 4 kind of game. You wait for the bell, wait for liquidity, and wait for the market to open. It felt like a fundamental rule of trading.

What I hadn't ces don't stop moving when Wall Street closes. What shuts down is everything around them. Brokers go offline, exchanges close, and the infrastructure that connects people to the market stops running.

"The market is closed" isn't a law of nature. It's just how the system was built.

That line of thinking eventually led me to CallPut, an onchain options exchange that lets users trade synthetic options on stocks and crypto directly from a wallet. You connect a wallet and trade directly from there, without waiting for market hours.

What stood out to me is how it approaches pricing. Instead of relying on a traditional options chain, CallPut builds its own futures index and volatility curve from market data, allowing synthetic options on assets like NVDA, TSLA, AAPL, GOOGL, PLTR, SPY, QQQ, BTC, and ETH to remain tradable 24/7, including weekends and after-hours.

It's worth noting that these aren't broker-listed options contracts. You're not buying shares, receiving dividends, or getting voting rights. You're getting exposure to price movement, not ownership of the underlying asset.

Maybe the most interesting thing here isn't the product itself. It's realizing how many "rules" in markets are just design choices.

If prices move 24/7, why does access to them still operate on banker hours?

If you're into options trading, give @CallPutApp a follow. Worth watching what they're building.

Great report from @BlockScholes on the renaissance of onchain options.

And great to see @CallPutApp included among the new generation of onchain options venues. 🙏

One point especially resonated with us:

Options shouldn’t be limited to crypto.

At CallPut, we’re bringing stock rkets such as $TSLA, $NVDA, $COIN and $SPCX, and building toward a simple place for anyone to trade equity options onchain.

Perps brought directional trading onchain.
Prediction markets brought probabilities onchain.
We believe stock options are next.

Thanks to the Block Scholes team for covering CallPut and the broader revival of onchain options.

After one of the sharpest selloffs in memory stocks,
$SNDK has become a volatility trade

[1/7] This week matters for $SPCX

Q2 earnings today
$123B lockup unlock in two days

Two major events. Two trading days apart.

Here's the lockup schedule, what history says,
and how to think about positioning👇

[6/7] What if you don't know which direction?

You can buy a call and a put at the same time

Call option: pays off if the stock goes up
Put option: pays off if the stock goes down

Together, the structure looks like this:

$SPCX moves sharply higher → call profits
put loses only the premium

$SPCX moves sharply lower → put profits
call loses only the premium

If the move is big enough in either direction,
one side's gain exceeds the other side's loss

But there's something you need to know

When a big event passes,
premiums drop sharply
This is called IV crush

Even if you get the direction right,
falling premiums can limit your profit
or turn it into a loss

That's why this isn't always the right play
when premiums are already elevated
heading into an event

The point isn't to find a guaranteed strategy

The point is this:
options let you define your risk before the event starts
Whatever happens on August 6,
your maximum loss is known in advance

• Tomorrow (Aug 5): market's first reaction
• Aug 6: first lockup tranche (~$123B)
• Aug 21: second tranche (7%)
• Sep 10: third tranche (7%)

Direction is hard to call
Volatility is the setup
