Lived in this building for 5y after arriving in SF in my early 20s. $700 / mo, not bad for a 1 bedroom (just have to share kitchen and bathrooms with old Chinese ladies). Stayed there well after I started earning mid 6 figures. Good for the soul.
A Microsoft AI scientist chose to live in a tiny room in San Francisco’s Chinatown for less than $1,000 a month.

@annakook gives us a rare look inside a single-room occupancy building, where residents have private rooms but share kitchens and bathrooms.

@Altimor I rarely feel that I belong anywhere, but the people at the @ymcasf Chinatown branch have given me the closest thing to it I've ever known. 🏊

@Altimor Dude, I lived in almost an identical room / building in Chinatown 2015-2016

Rooftop was awesome though especially when the Blue Bird Air show came through

Only issue for me was the Chinese cooking smell; was really strong throughout the building

@Altimor This is called growing up. You can’t expect private 2k at age 23. Learn to rough it a bit and you enjoy everything after so much more

As a child, Kit's twin sister Cat disappeared, never to be heard from again. Until one Halloween night. But is it really Cat?

@Altimor I had a project at a VA hospital in Boston. A doctor there was secretly living in his office. Got caught because he set the fire alarm off cooking dinner at night. True commitment to the cost effective grind.

@Altimor Banking-APIs sind 24/7 verfügbar. Der Engpass: fehlende Regeln für Datenzugriff, Haftung und Prozesse. Ohne klare Governance skaliert man nur Chaos, nicht Technik.

@Altimor You won’t get a GF ever with a room like that. Not even if your 6’5 young Leonardo DiCaprio
