Welcome home, my daughter #PraiseAloikin! ❤️
My heart is full of joy, relief and pride. You have endured abduction, imprisonment and the cruelty of injustice, yet I know that you have emerged with your courage and dignity intact.
They tried to break your spirit. They failed!
You are a leader, Praise. Stand tall, my girl. Your future is bright. ❤️ @AloikinOpoloje @AgoraCFR

While in the packed court for Praise Aloikin’s Bail hearing, I reflected on the time we waste as a country over useless things. For a case of using a SIM card that belongs to her mother (or insulting someone very important), we’ve wasted time and resources of so many people that would otherwise be spent on productive things. Let’s look at a few:
1. The time and resources wasted by soldiers tracking her before they abducted her.
2. The state resources wasted by police officers etc discussing and opening up a flimsy case against her.
3. The time of court wasted attending to her bogus case instead of attending to the huge backlog of sensible cases.
4. The Prisons resources wasted on holding her up and adding to the congestion there for over two weeks.
5. The valuable time of Ugandans wasted in campaigns for Praise’s freedom.
6. The entire day spent seated at court today by over 50 people, state prosecutors, defence lawyers etc who would have been doing productive work elsewhere.
7. The wasted court resources (tax payers’ money) on electricity, files, ware and tear.
If every time an offended important person will have to resort to this, how much more tax payers’ money and productive time shall we waste!!! Do we care about the cost that comes with this pettiness?
This is just one case, but try to aggregate the cost of all the bogus cases preoccupying the public and courts now. We can no longer sustain debate on serious issues of national development without being disrupted by news of more kidnaps or torture victims. Besides, many well meaning resourceful people are too scared to be critical. Pettiness and opportunistic praise singing have consumed the space for ideas. Many intelligent people are going quiet as the environment has become more conducive for loud chorusing stupidity and calculations for personal gain. Can a country grow under such conditions?
