Polio was once the leading cause of paralysis among children worldwide. Today, thanks to vaccines, we are closer than ever to eradicating this deadly disease.

On Saturday’s #WorldPolioDay, @WHO is calling for sustained commitment & action to #EndPolio.

The idea of all nations coming together to protect people from war and injustice is radical. And it works.

On this @UN Day, let's remember all the lives saved and improved through multilateralism – and all those who still need our support.

Let us not give up on that idea.

For 81 years, the United Nations has worked to bring countries together to advance peace, development and human rights.

As the world faces growing challenges, global cooperation remains essential to building a better future for all.

Saturday is #UNDay.

Access to information and technology can open doors and improve lives.

Bridging the digital divide is essential to ensuring everyone can benefit from progress — and to advancing the #GlobalGoals.

For 81 years, the @UN has been:

Settling disputes with diplomacy & laws.

Working to eradicate poverty & hunger.

Promoting human rights.

And delivering life-saving aid to people facing war, disaster & displacement.

Today, the United Nations is needed more than ever.

We will continue worUN to best serve people & meet the challenges of our time.

#UNDay

I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on a funeral service in a church in Hmoud in Jordan.

Places of worship must be places of peace & safe for all.

Attacks against civilians & places of worship are unacceptable.

The @UN stands with the Jordanian people & government.

One year after the atrocities in El Fasher, North Darfur, safety is mostly out of reach for women and girls.

@UN_Women is in #Sudan, providing life-saving support to women and investing in their leadership.

El Niño is back – and it is hitting communities hard.

Over 50 million more people are facing severe hunger, many already battered by conflict and climate shocks.

The consequences could be devastating. We must act now to protect the communities before impacts do the worst.

#Sudan: UN Human Rights Chief @volker_turk strongly condemns the escalation in drone strikes this month and their devastating consequences for civilians in Kordofan, Darfur, Blue Nile, Khartoum and other states.

He emphasizes that a negotiated settlement, with human rights at easible pathway to sustainable peace, saying: “I urge both parties to the conflict, and their affiliates, to commit to a ceasefire.”

Attacks directed against civilians are prohibited under international law.

Yet, from the Middle East to Ukraine to Sudan, we are seeing civilians & civilian infrastructure deliberately thrust into the line of fire.

Nothing seems to be off-limits: homes, hospitals, schools, airpenergy facilities.

These attacks must stop.

The snow leopard plays a key role in maintaining the balance of mountain ecosystems.

Yet this majestic big cat is threatened by climate change, pollution & biodiversity loss.

“Gaza’s children are trying to recover their childhoods, to find some routine and stability in their young lives, which for too many have again been cut short. A ceasefire that does not protect children has failed them.” - @UNICEFmena's Edouard Beigbeder

Escalating hostilities in Yemen & continued Houthi attacks against civilian targets in Saudi Arabia - which are totally unacceptable - are inflicting immense suffering on civilians & adding to regional tensions.

We need restraint.

And Yemen needs a political horizon.

In #Nepal, WFP used humanitarian cargo drones to deliver assistance to communities isolated by floods and damaged infrastructure.
