@Lunens__ @SamuelAlbanie we could romanify polis to police, maybe... no, surely too on the nose... how about copper
/uj you just made me think about the etymology of police for the first time in my life which is going to consume me for a bit now

@SamuelAlbanie what on earth is "uber for personal security"
surely the whole point if i wanted a bodyguard is i would want someone i trusted deeply and implicitly, not someone i'd hired for an hour with a sketchy background and no way of verifying that they are honest

@ojoshe great post. it's also such poor messaging that the only positive vision of the ai future that anyone seems to be willing to discuss is "you will never have a job again and get to live off the government forever... what do you mean you don't want me to keep building ai?"

@catdaly "Okay" seems way more polite! "Ok" to me has connotations of terseness. I think "OK" is a happy middle ground

@RobertHoglund @pangram 2 and 3 don't come out as 100% AI-generated, unless you are literally copy and pasting what the AI said with no additions or changes of your own. Pangram's scores are pretty sensitive and decent at detecting if there's any human-written content.

@hoofnagle i think this is more a reflection of the failing standards at the high school level - mostly because teachers cannot detect ai - and a proctored admissions test doesn't really fix that. the answer is probably all high school exams should be in-person to prevent ai use

@robertskmiles if you didn't start caring about ai before the 1956 dartmouth workshop then you don't have the right to speak on it now /s

@whizwang Yeah, I mean, I guess you view her as more of a person than a "character" which necessarily invokes a little sympathy? But I don't think that's a bad thing! I think the fact we can feel sympathy for her is what keeps us human. It's actually a rather good thing

@whizwang I don’t think that’s how she comes off, though. The exchange she has with Nathan where she says “I’ve never told a lie” and he’s like “Liz, be serious” is a great example of how she is incapable of honesty, which is more or less what she’s going to jail for.
