Gas prices, interest rates and inflations are what Americans deal with every single day.

When all of these are through the roof, people simply can't care as much about trans, tariff, deficit or illegals.

Not to mention the threat of Iran's nuclear program to Israel.

People just want to live their lives.
FoxNews: what issues do you care about?

Student: gas prices, inflation, stuff is too expensive

@Global_hawk_eyeADAS needs to be compared with other ADAS, and L4/robotaxis with other L4/robotaxis.

Most human drivers might not have seen this pedestrian crossing the road either, but that doesn’t mean Tesla’s decision to design FSD as a vision-only system wasn’t a design oversight.

My argument is simple: FSD’s camera-only design was a flaw in this accident, and LiDAR could have prevented it. That’s the point I was making.

@Louistesla93。

Cybertruck is just an ugly, failed car.

It may look cool online, but you need to see it in person to realize just how ugly it is. Some owners have given theirs really cool wraps, but the original finish is just ugly.

It looks like a grasshopper.

Musk once claimed Cybertruck could sell 250K–500K units a year.

Actual sales were around 39K in 2024, 20K in 2025, and are running at an annualized rate of roughly 14K in 2026.

It could be discontinued within two years if annual sales drop to just 5K ~6k units. At that point, there would be little business justification for keeping it in production.

Nothing but a failure. Just a toy to please Elon. $TSLA #Cybertruck
Tesla canceling Cybertruck reservations for right hand drive isn’t a good sign for the future of the product.

I personally think they’re going to discontinue the vehicle all together. As advanced as it is, it needs a major reboot.

Remember when Elon recently posted about how difficult it is to see gray kittens at 11 p.m.?

Elon was honest this time. He admitted that seeing at night is difficult for Tesla robotaxis. Apparently, extending robotaxi operating hours from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. is now a milestone Fact check: There are no gray kittens coming out late at night. Only humans.

To make it clear, the tragedy in which Tesla #FSD struck and killed a 71-year-old pedestrian on a freeway at 2:30 a.m. yesterday could have been avoided.

Yes, the pedestrian should never have been on the freeway in the first place. But that does not mean he deserved to be killed.

Tesla's decision not to include LiDAR in its autonomous driving system to save costs directly contributed to this tragedy, as well as other tragedies that have already happened and those that will happen in the future.

@elonmusk knows that well. So do many Tesla employees.

One simple fact tells us that this FSD vehicle likely detected the pedestrian only a very short time before impact—anyone who has actually driven a Tesla with FSD knows how quickly it can change lanes in an emergency. Before you even realize what's happening, FSD could already have moved the car into another lane, within one second.

On an empty freeway at 2:30 a.m., if FSD detected a pedestrian about to enter its lane, it could easily make a rapid lane change within a second.

The fact that the vehicle's front-right corner still struck the pedestrian strongly suggests that it only detected him when the distance was already too short to make a lane change and avoid the collision. That distance was likely no more than about one second of driving time at 70 mph, including the time needed to brake and change lanes.

At 70 mph, a car travels roughly 30 meters per second. Considering that the car had already been braking after detecting the pedestrian, its average speed during that interval would have been much lower than 70 mph. That means the distance between the vehicle and the pedestrian may have been less than 30 meters when FSD finally detected him.

That also roughly corresponds to the illumination range of a vehicle's headlights at night.

In other words, in a dark environment like this, a vision-only FSD system is fundamentally limited by the range of available light because cameras can only passively receive photons.

LiDAR doesn't care whether the scene is illuminated. Even in complete darkness, it can actively detect objects hundreds of meters away by emitting eye-safe laser beams and measuring the reflected signals.

Why don't we put this to a simple test?

Take a Tesla running FSD and a vehicle equipped with @ousterlidar LiDAR. Put both on a dark, empty road at 70 mph and have a pedestrian dummy cross the road.

Then measure how far away each system can detect the pedestrian and avoid hitting it.
@Tesla @robotaxi @elonmusk @ousterlidar , are you guys up for the challenge? #lidar

The headline was misleading by mentioning "FSD" as this was 100% a tragic accident caused by an unlawful pedestrian.

However, this could have been avoided if @Tesla had LiDAR.

1⃣ 100% on the Pedestrian

It happened at 2:30 a.m. on a fully enclosed interstate—this guy unlawfully stepped onto the highway and ran across multiple lanes from the right shoulder.

Cruising at a normal 70 mph flow, zero chance any human driver or software anticipates a random person sprinting into the middle of a freeway.

2⃣ Speed Was Legal, System + Driver Did All They Could

Limit on that stretch of I-80 is 65–70 mph, so 70 mph is completely compliant. CHP footage proves the car executed a hard brake and swerved left at the absolute last second—no, the driver wasn't asleep at the wheel.

3⃣ Why Wasn't He Spotted Earlier?

The Distance Math:

At 70 mph, you’re covering roughly 31.3 meters (~103 ft) per second.

There were 4-5 lanes on this freeway and the Tesla was on the 2nd left lane, meaning the pedestrain crossed the shoulder, then 2-3 lanes to arrive in the lane Tesla was driving in.

Crossing the shoulder and 3 full lanes takes about 2.5 to 3 seconds. That means when the pedestrian first stepped off the shoulder, the Tesla was still 80 to 90 meters (~250–300 ft) out.

At 2:30 a.m. with no streetlights, 80+ meters is way beyond standard low-beam headlight reach (30–50 m). Tesla’s Pure Vision cameras in pitch-black conditions aren't going to turn a couple of noisy dark pixels into a "running human" in time.

In other words, FSD could have failed to see this guy when he first entered the car lanes from the shoulder at about 80m-90m away.

By the time the guy hit the illuminated zone in lane 2 (maybe less than 30 meters away from the Tesla), the reaction window was under 1 second—physics simply doesn't allow a full stop there.

4⃣ Pure Vision vs. LiDAR

This case really highlights the physical limits of Tesla’s camera-only setup in dark environments. A vehicle with active high-power LiDAR fires its own laser beams to build a 3D point cloud, meaning it could've recognized a human moving off the shoulder 200 meters away regardless of ambient light. That would’ve given enough room to brake early and likely avoid this whole tragedy.

Bottom line: pedestrian error caused this, and FSD/driver reacted as fast as physics allowed. But it's a textbook example of Pure Vision's night-time perception bottleneck.

Marketing aside, tech can't rewrite physics. @elonmusk $TSLA $OUST

Interesting. AI estimates this mini constellation could consist of 30–50 small SAR satellites launched in 2028. $RKLB’s Neutron could potentially deploy the entire constellation in a single launch.

The fact that @elonmusk has slowed Starlink’s speed in Ukraine shows why many countries will need to develop sovereign satellite communications capabilities rather than rely on Starlink.

What Elon just did has seriously undermined $SPCX ’s credibility as a reliable global communications provider. No country should leave its future in the hands of the world’s richest man, whose decisions could depend on whether he likes you or not.

This is a broadband communications system for government and military customers in Ukraine, not a direct-to-cell (D2C) service. So $ASTS fans don’t need to worry, lol.
Nokia and @iceye_global announced today a partnership with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine to develop sovereign satellite communications. Through this Letter of Intent we will explore how trusted, sovereign satellite communications can strengthen Ukraine's resilience and give nectivity it depends on.

A 71-year-old man was killed early Thursday morning after he was struck by a Tesla in full self-driving mode as he was crossing I-80 in Vallejo, the CHP said. A 26-year-old San Francisco man was inside the Tesla and stayed at the scene. More here: abc7news.com/19969111/
Community note
According to CHP dashcam footage, the pedestrian entered I-80 from the right shoulder and stepped directly into the path of the Tesla traveling around 70 mph; the vehicle applied brakes and steered left attempting to avoid him.

It’s only a matter of time before the Republican Party cuts ties with Trump. But the damage has already been done.
BREAKING: Billionaire Republican megadonor Peter Thiel, the Palantir co-founder who helped bankroll JD Vance’s political career, is now breaking with Trump over the Iran war, admitting, “I think we should not have done it. There were a lot of mistakes that were made.” Thiel also warned America could lose its global influence.
