NHTSA announced plans today to modernize federal tire regulations to improve driver safety, lower automotive costs, and keep pace with modern vehicle engineering.

🔍 Key focus areas include:
⚙️ Modernized Testing: Updating safety tests—such as tire strength, rim resistance, and rn vehicle weights and current road conditions.
💡 Evaluating Next-Gen Tech: Establishing safety standards for innovations like airless (puncture-proof) tires, modernizing sidewall markings, and revising weight limits for trucks and SUVs.
🤝 Collaborative Rulemaking: @USDOT Secretary Sean P. Duffy will appoint an 18-member committee representing tire manufacturers, automakers, safety organizations, and research institutions to work toward consensus on the regulatory update. 🏛️

The proposed updates include:

✔️ Modernization of manual turn signal, hazard warning and beam-switching controls
✔️ Standardized, optional cyan ADS marker lamps to clearly signal when an m is operating the vehicle
✔️ Modernized headlamp testing to reflect LED systems
✔️ Removal of outdated vertical headlamp positioning requirements
