It’s a bloodbath in Bay Area. Thousands of layoffs, more to come.
Met a founder this morning who mentioned his AI tech is laying off 2000 call center workers.
Not sure if society is ready for such upheaval. Gut wrenching

Melanie Joly just said the quiet part out loud.
Canada is “doubling down on products that will have an impact politically on Republican states.”
They’re openly choosing which American industries to target based on U.S. election maps instead of Canadian jobs.
Steel mills are idling. Auto parts plants are cutting shifts. Trucking companies are parking rigs because fuel and input costs keep climbing. Food bank use keeps setting records.
Meanwhile the people making these calls still collect full salaries, expense accounts, and pensions that don’t depend on whether a plant in Ontario or Quebec stays open.
This isn’t strategy for Canadian workers. It’s using Canadian industries as leverage in someone else’s political fight.
The layoffs don’t hit the people writing the talking points. They hit the people who still have to pay rent and buy groceries here.

A business dynasty faces another test. Layoffs of up to 10% are reportedly coming in January, but employees will still get to enjoy Christmas. The bigger question: Can today's heirs weather a crisis as well as their elders did?

The same companies that did layoffs few days, weeks & months ago...
Their HRs are reaching out on LinkedIn to hire again
If they want engineers, they could have re-used their employees in the required teams instead of firing them...
Are HRs playing this layoff & hiring game to save their own jobs?
CEOs & CFOs should keep an eye on their HR team

The South Korean writer and director Lee Chang-dong makes beautiful films about terrible things. In his latest work, “Possible Love,” the terrible events have already occurred. In a town where, two years prior, a workers’ strike following mass layoffs was brutally suppressed, a to make a film about the laid-off workers. She zeros in on a couple as the working-class foundation of her vérité masterpiece and pursues them to unburden themselves for her own artistic gain. “Lee seems to be acknowledging his own potential for dramatic exploitation, if not of his characters, then of the events that inspired the story—an automaker’s restructuring in Korea in 2009 that threatened thousands of layoffs, leading to both a strike and a police crackdown,” Justin Chang writes. I'm not a doomer, but in 2-3 years, when large companies begin adopting it in their processes, there will be mass layoffs.
I work in finance, people are well paid, if AI can do 50% of the job comfortably, they will cut heads to save costs.

Engineering departures are outpacing hires by more than 3 to 1.
Now I’m seeing departures across HR, recruiting, operations, and senior program management.
My watch window: November through Q1 2027.
