payroll doesn't have to be some complex app that you hate going to
you could just ask some questions and take some action (like giving that employee a raise you've been forgetting about)

“Bump Priya’s salary to $120,000”

Hiring your first employee is one of the biggest moments for a founder. But payroll, taxes, benefits, and compliance are far more complicated than they need to be.
Now with AI we can make the pain of payroll go away.

@mercury's MCP just saved me hours.
I had it reconcile invoices, card charges, and Stripe deposits. That used to eat up my whole afternoon, but it took seconds.
The best AI use cases are the boring jobs nobody wants to do.

I remember very clearly how, in 2022, everybody thought Brex was the winner, Mercury's product was lagging behind, and Ramp was an emerging challenger.
Fast forward: Brex was acquired for about $5B (down from $12B), Ramp raised at a $60B valuation, and Mercury crossed $1B in annualized revenue and is profitable. Pretty wild when you think about it.
Mercury played the long game, and it's doing the same with agents. Some of the biggest banks are blocking them. Mercury is building the controls so the answer can be yes: the customer decides what an outside agent can do, it can't bypass existing permissions, and access can be revoked any time.
Congrats to Immad and the team.

today we're sharing @mercury crossed $1b/year in revenue
i joined 5 years ago right as we hit $10M/year and ~20k customers - the curves looked exponential, product was beautiful and people were great so I jumped in. "A 10x is just a 3x 2x 2x" @immad told me a few times
now we're powering >1 in 3 startups and defining the next era of business and personal banking through the software we build, agentic capabilities we empower, and new products in accounting/payroll/invoicing we're launching.
just getting started!

in this note, she shares how we designs and built the experience that enables safe money movement via AI agents - a ton of tiny details went into it to make the user experience easy and powerful

AI agents are usually handed a simple task: Book the reservation. Send that email. Update that spreadsheet. But what happens when the thing you’re asking it to do is move your money? x.com/i/article/2111…

this is anti-consumer behavior by big banks and i'm sad to see it
@mercury MCPs paired with agents are enabling innovation by saving time and offloading financial tasks. we've heard from hundreds of entrepreneurs building financial reports/alerts, automating bookkeeping, getting on top of invoice colelctions
and you can stay in control because its part of the product we give agents: we give limited permissions, you can revoke access anytime, any sensitive action requires a login + confirmation

Citigroup now bars third-party AI agents from logging into customer accounts or moving money inside its digital banking platforms, according to the Financial Times.
Bank of America has imposed similar limits, joining JPMorgan Chase, which is restricting outside AI agents after thousands of “rogue agents” could otherwise operate inside the bank.
The deeper threat is to bank funding, since agents comparing rates could move cash from checking accounts paying about 0.1% into fintech accounts paying 3.3% to 5%.
JPMorgan, Bank of America and Wells Fargo hold $1.6T in non-interest deposits, and paying 3% on that money would cost $47B a year, close to half their combined annual earnings.

This is so rad.
You can now fully manage your Mercury account from within ChatGPT!
This includes making payments and transferring money.
All transfers still require final approve from within Mercury.
Fun collab!
Props to the Mercury team on a great ChatGPT plugin 🙌

1/ Starting today you can take actions on your @mercury business and personal accounts right from your agent (ChatGPT/Claude/etc) via the MCP.
Our MCP already let you ask questions about your accounts.* Now it can move money too (with your approval).

Got early access to Mercury actions for a while now and this finally completed my accounting/admin workflow as a solo founder running a 7-fig agency 🔥
@bot creates payments in @mercury from email invoices and our internal records. I just go in and approve. Reconciliations with our books run monthly in Codex with the mercury MCP too.
Took me a while to get past the "my bank shouldn't be shiny" syndrome but I don't see a way back at this point

i hit my final straw with JPM last week. i told Instinct to sign me up for @mercury, and to my astonishment it did it 95% autonomously (i just had to verify my identity with a photo).

we've spent a ton of time on making the controls user friendly
- we require multi-factor authentication login with the ability to revoke at anytime from your mercury account
- you can opt out of write access when setting up
- for sensitive actions like sending a payment, we let you review it before completing it
This means we don't move as fast or unlock full capabilities as fast, but our customers tell us it is mission critical to their decision to use us

FWIW I mention banking a few times and I need to add a disclosure here as part of that: while we are currently in the application process for a national charter, Mercury is a fintech company, and not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC. The IO Card is issued by Patriot Bank, N.A., Member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Mastercard International Incorporated.

you can now categorize transactions, queue up transfers or payments, and a lot more coming
we think you should be able to have your agents running with your banking, invoicing, spend, accounting and payroll
