I’ve joined @trybasis to grow the Labs team alongside @mitch_troy, @falcone_design, and @simoncorry, where we're exploring what emerging technologies could become and how they might change the way we work, make, and live.

ANNOUNCMENT: I've joined @trybasis to work on Basis Labs
When agents write trillions of lines of code, solve open math problems and run our companies, what do we become?
I've always believed the answer is expanding what we're capable of
What inspires me most about what the s that they chose to expand what accountants can do with AI, not take it away. Today about half of the top 25 US accounting firms use Basis
I'm excited to work with @ethanproia, @falcone_design, @simoncorry, @mitch_troy and the wider Basis team on experimenting with:
- human-agent interfaces
- new kinds of models
- long-horizon agents
- fun benchmarks
- what AI means for society
Excited to share some of what we've been cooking!

Jacob Thornton (@fat) is the founder of Pierre Computer Company (@pierrecomputer).
Pierre provides the building blocks of the computers that agents will use to do work. But Pierre is as much a brand and culture project as an infrastructure one. Jacob believes brand is the most be doing in 2026, and his references run from MTV and skateboard brands to Godard films and the magazine racks at sf Heath newsstand.
In this interview, we talked about why MVP culture is cringe, how to find and hire obsessives, why the best creative work at Pierre starts in iMessage threads, and the real reason the company is named Pierre… sort of.
Read the full interview "Virtual computers for agents, chrome blobs, and MTV" linked in the thread.

after six and nine years respectively, me and @narrowd left L̶e̶d̶ ̶Z̶e̶p̶p̶e̶l̶i̶n̶ stripe a couple of months ago.
what we did at stripe/press over the years was a big deal for us, and i don't want to diminish it by making jokes or reducing a tough decision to "we made the eave". maybe we’ll write a book.
i will miss some of our enemies and all of our friends. art directing books and designing websites for @stripepress was an honor.
we will miss the chaos of it all 🫡

Whoever creates the first visual editor to model state-based interfaces will win the design tool war.

Been thinking about the first design tool I ever used… in 1995.
It was called MicroLathe (μLathe) and used a rotational extrusion metaphor for creating & rendering 3D objects.

We used to buy things made one at a time.
Mass production made products cheaper and more accessible, but largely identical.
What if the future takes us back to a world where everything is one-of-one?
Autumn Moon is a limited drop in collaboration with @kelin_online & @angidea.

In retrospect, every interview I’ve “bombed” or opportunity I’ve “fumbled” has catapulted the trajectory of my life into the most magical, unexpected, life-affirming directions (although not without long periods of anguish, self-doubt, and uncertainty).
It, quite literally, always, always, always works out.

I bombed two interviews the past year so bad that they might mortify me until the day I die
appreciate the homies talking about this this week; it's so easy to celebrate wins & paint a picture of being a perfect angel but this life can humble all of us

a few weeks ago i took a damascus steel making class. i didn’t and still don’t care how steel is made.
but what i cared about was how i can further hone my craft. being a good designer means continually learning how your hand interacts with your eye. not only do we have to ask right, but how quick can we execute our vision.
steel making was this concept bought to the physical. you had to continually mold steel to the right length. smashing, bending, cutting and all within a millisecond ask yourself if this was the right decision.
each decision made an impact on the steel’s final shape and in the end, showed how precise a creators brain has to be for a beautiful result.
too often we get caught up in the digital to understand design, but sometimes we need a fire under our belts to really kick our senses into shape.

“The computer was not made in the image of the person. The computer was made in the image of the formal manipulations of abstract symbols. And the last 30 years of cognitive science can be seen as attempts to remake the person in the image of the computer.” — Edwin Hutchins, 1995

1/ We discovered something totally unexpected about the neural structure of consciousness that overturns decades of thinking on its biological basis and brings us significantly closer to the recipe for generating conscious awareness.
