Outback used to be my special occasion restaurant, so I have some thoughts on its struggles.
I think restaurants in the middle are getting squeezed. Prices keep going up, but the experience isn't keeping pace.
You can go somewhere inexpensive like In-N-Out and get great food, friendly service and good value. Or you can spend a lot more at a sit-down chain and walk away feeling like everything was just mediocre.
I think more and more people are choosing one of two things: a nicer restaurant for a special occasion or an affordable place for everyday meals.
The restaurants stuck in the middle have a problem. If you're charging more, you have to deliver more. Often, they're not.

I get what you're saying for the evolving Google as we know it, the omnibox, but... If you tap web, you get old fashioned blue links.
This article is getting posted everywhere this morning, but this decision is being incorrectly framed as punitive. There is no such thing as search without Gemini. Even if you don't turn AI mode on, you are still talking to Gemini in the search box. The old Google search is gone.

Netflix is trying something new to help you figure out what to watch.
Starting today, some users will see a new AI Discover tab on their TV. Pick a theme based on your mood, and AI generates recommendations on the fly. You can narrow things down and tell Netflix what you're not rns your tastes.
I'm game to try anything that gets me streaming faster and scrolling less.

Before you spend money on smart home gadgets, check with your homeowners insurance company.
They might give you some for free! I checked out Phyn and LeakBot for water leaks, plus Ting for electrical fire hazards. Some insurers even help pay for repairs.

Not sure when Amazon made this easier, but I just cleaned up my entire Kindle library! It used to be a pain to remove old library loans, borrowed books, PDFs and documents I'd sent to my Kindle. Now it's much simpler to delete all that clutter.

One of my favorite ways to clean up my email archive: When you get a confirmation email you're about to delete, chances are you have years of similar messages. In Gmail, click the three-dot menu, choose “Filter messages like this,” then select all and delete. Instant cleanup!

Here's one of my first reports on the iPhone. July 2, 2007. Was working for CNET in NYC at the time and I would appear as a guest on various TV segments to discuss technology.

Okay, I just installed the Raycast keyboard with voice dictation, and it actually seems better to use than almost any other voice dictation keyboard I've tried, for two reasons. Number one, it switches keyboards by itself. Number two, the voice-to-text is really good. Number three, you can actually type on it as a regular keyboard. For some reason, all the other replacement keyboards that are voice-to-text are horrible as regular keyboards.
