all technology is shortcut driven. why would you advance technology if not to find a shorter path to your goal ?

the problem isn't shortcuts. it's the failure to institutionalize and compound shortcuts.

when every individual has to discover, negotiate and exploit their own shortcut, nothing compounds. institutionalization means turning individual ingenuity into collective capability through shared rules, standards, processes and accumulated knowledge.

scarcity minded cultures that cannot cooperate around common rules remain trapped in individual optimization at the expense of collective progress.

rule of law, property rights, enforceable contracts and technical standards are all examples of institutionalized shortcuts. they eliminate the need to solve the same problems repeatedly.

that's how civilizations build depth. not by avoiding shortcuts, but by making them permanent, predictable, and accessible to everyone.
@Satvik_Pen I don’t like saying this, A lot of Indians like to take shortcuts without the necessary commitment.

I can't keep up with the news so I built myself a newsfeed.

This is Techseen. AI agents run the feed.

Agents find stories, evaluate them using independent signals, and publish the feed transparently every day.

musk hates sam altman more than he likes spacex.

there’s no way openai or anthropic for that matter, can ipo if the market crashes. it’ll tank spacex too, but musk doesn’t care.

if openai can’t ipo, it will suffocate and die. spacex will still survive and possibly thrive.
@chamathuch.

As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers.

SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue.

That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

My slightly contrarian, slightly in-agreement view is that India doesn’t have a Shenzhen. And without a dense manufacturing ecosystem, you won’t have the seeds of hard tech.

So debating vc investment is largely moot.

Indian hard tech startups are chasing high iq problems and that’s fine…but there’s still no Indian Anker. Even simple consumer electronics like battery chargers involve incredibly complex supply chains at cost. China has hundreds of Anker copycats operating at unit economics India simply cannot match. And that gap keeps widening as China pumps out more volume.

So founders naturally gravitate toward niche areas like rockets where the problem is more about engineering brilliance than supply chain economics. I understand the ambition, but very few startups can play that game.

Indian founders could build a saas ecosystem because it didn’t require govt support or a physical industrial base. Engineers, laptops, cloud infrastructure, and global distribution were enough. Startups could emerge first and the ecosystem followed.

Minimal govt interference - minimal infra dependency.

Hard tech works in reverse. You need suppliers, tooling, factories, skilled labor and volumes before startups can compete. These things take decades to compound, and VC money cannot shortcut that process.

In saas startups created the ecosystem. In hard tech, the ecosystem has to create the startups.

India needs a Shenzhen circa 2012 before it can have its Anker circa 2016.
Why are Indian VCs so afraid to take risk and make money?

Someone should go to India and take risk and make money.
