The best aspect of Framework laptops is the convenient availability of parts. Here I'm replacing just the keyboard (a couple keys became flaky after 2 years), maybe the trickiest repair because there are 60+ tiny screws! (Success, phew)

Wooting keyboard firmware and config app is really good - surprisingly good for a small hardware company. I'm really not a competitive gamer, just enjoying the tech. So many companies struggle with firmware and control software, it's so nice to see it done really well.

Approximate browser engine team sizes:

- Chromium: 1000
- WebKit: 100
- Ladybird: 10

I don't have a point to make, just fascinated by the massive difference in scale.

For most of my adult life I dismissed the scenes in Alien where the crew are communicating with MU-TH-UR as an unrealistic 1970's concept of what computer interfaces of the future would be like.

Nowadays I realize that this is pretty much what people are doing with LLMs.

NVDA is becoming another Tesla, overrepresented in the main indexes while being valued according to hype multiplicators. Passive funds should find smarter ways than linear to capitalization to determine components percentages.

The reason it’s possible to write a new compatible web engine is largely thanks to @Hixie.

The html5 spec was his labor of love. I watched him hammer it out over years at Google — painstakingly reverse engineering undocumented ie behaviors, figuring out the most compatible quirks, writing down algorithms step by step. It was really inspiring to see and left a deep impression on me about big projects.

In a way, ladybird is continuing in this tradition. One person (or a few) can do a lot with just consistent quiet effort over years. One foot in front of the other!
For some reason, many people still believe that browsers need to include non-standard hacks in HTML parsing to display the web correctly.

In reality, the HTML parsing spec is exhaustively detailed. If you implement it as described, you will have a web-compatible parser. 🤓

The libarchive e8 vulnerability is actually really cool, but the ZDI advisory doesn't explain why it's so wild lol. For some reason, I know about RAR filters, so let me provide the background. 🧵 1/n

I see people complain about Git and I can't help but remember my first programming job had a full time person whose only job was to merge Subversion branches and resolve conflicts and merge requests into "trunk" could take weeks.

Stick to the classic .com .org .net to avoid this. Many new fancy TLDs have weird pricing schemes.
Wow, my domain name provider wants $50 to renew my .store domain name. Time I start shopping around. Pun intended.

Environmental assessments were created to be a short screening process for whether a project had to do a NEPA review. But because EA documents themselves can be sued for being insufficient, the lengths of EAs have gone from ~10 pages to this. (3/8)

The quality of the security advisories for Curl is outstanding especially over such a long period:

curl.se/docs/security.…

It's worth reading a few to understand how complex HTTP clients actually are.

You ran a dumb installer as root and it junked your system, like sometimes happens on windows ... looks easy to fix in this case, force-remove the bad packages and remove llvm stuff from /etc/apt/sources*
