Because NASA is targeting the south pole of the moon the astronauts landing there are going to see the Earth 'upside down'.

Forgetting the drone side of things, there are artificial limits on civilian thermal imaging cameras in the US that the rest of the world doesn’t have to follow.
DJI is mass rolling out 1280 x 1024 thermal imaging for its Mavic-sized drones while American 640 x 480 imagers are on 6+ mo lead times

This should be a MASSIVE wake up call to the Western industrial base, fire alarms should be ringing.

That is quite a gate change, over 40 miles away.

A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Apollo 9's Rusty Schweickart!
Born October 25, 1935.
Here he is during his EVA on March 6, 1969, beautifully lit by the pale blue reflected light from Earth.
Rusty was also responsible for another very important photograph...1/2

October 25th is Rusty Schweickart's birthday, so here's a remix I made for my show using his speech about his experience on Apollo 9
youtube.com/watch?v=yfBrsR…
The underlying tune is the 2004 Leama & Moor Remix of Brian Eno's 'Ascent (An Ending)' which was a big tune in the clubs.

I’ve not been around to work on the plane with my partners, and I come in this morning to find something big missing.

It’s TBO is up in a few months so we figured we’d do it early while we’re working on everything else.

With the launch of MMX to Phobos I’m seeing comments from sci-fi fans about watching out for the Protomolecule.
That’s the alien organism / Macguffin in The Expanse.

That’s Phoebe, not Phobos.

Phobos is the place that ends up with a literal portal to hell in Doom.

It’s fascinating to see the AI doomers building stories about the current ‘bugpocalypse’ when the high profile bugs at the root of the drama (pun intended) are things humans created.

So one of the interesting things that came out today was SLS + Orion getting taller.
Centaur V is getting 50% more propellent, and then a kick stage might be added underneath the service module for lunar orbit injection.

I'm trying to think what the kick stage might be based on. s a stripped down service module without the power and panels and just one engine.
SpaceX already has the ISS boost kit that fits inside dragon's trunk, it might fit the bill, especially with a Super Draco.
Impulse might be able to adapt one of their space tugs to this role.

Any other ideas?

Back from France, catching up on analysis. The object found in Borneo on Oct 19 is indeed likely to be from the upper stage of ZQ-2E Y4, launched on Oct 14 and reentered on Oct 18. The ground track (using the final Space-Track TLE) passed near the debris site at 1036 UTC Oct 18.

Explosion of the turbopump of engine № 8 of the N-1 № 5L 0.22 seconds before launch during the second flight test.

The detonation was so powerful that it tore out part of the tail section, damaged engines № 7 and 9, and also the cable network

It’s so small.
A rare view of concerning activity in orbit.

From Oct. 16–18, a Russian satellite made several close approaches to a U.S. commercial satellite. This image, collected by Vantor’s WorldView Space capability on Oct. 17, shows Russian Cosmos 2612 at an estimated distance of about 1 is image captures a reality long recognized by our national security leaders—space is becoming increasingly contested. Seeing one spacecraft repeatedly maneuver close to another raises serious concerns about capability and intent.”—Dan Smoot, Vantor CEO.

With WorldView Space, Vantor’s non-Earth imaging capability lets us collect images of other spacecraft in orbit, helping us better understand how they’re operating and spot activity that warrants a closer look.
