THE FACTORY IS THE NEW UNIVERSITY.
=======
Uganda is rolling out a competence-based curriculum. That is necessary, but competence has an address. It lives in a workshop, a plant, a construction site, a laboratory, a mine, a functioning maintenance system, and a vibrant commerce. from a rubric, precision assembly from a whiteboard, or infrastructure maintenance from photographs of a broken road.
Patrick McGee reports that Apple estimated its operations and supply network had trained at least 28 million workers in China since 2008. These were not 28 million people seated in lecture theatres. They learned by making products, correcting defects, operating machines, meeting tolerances and delivering to customers who could reject poor work. Aristotle advised centuries ago: “For things that we have to learn to do, we learn by doing them.”
The lesson is not that factories should replace universities. They should not. Engineering design, medical practice, research and public safety require disciplined theory and professional preparation. But the university no longer has a monopoly over technical education. A country acquires productive capability when learning moves continuously between the classroom, the workshop, the factory, the site and the laboratory.
That is where Uganda must become more demanding as we implement the Tenfold Growth Strategy. Every large public contract, mining licence, industrial-park allocation and foreign investment should answer one question: what capability will remain in Uganda when the contractor or investor leaves? Not simply how many people were employed to sweep, load and guard, but how many became technicians, supervisors, maintainers, process engineers and independent suppliers.
One job ends when a contract ends. A skill remains in the country. A local subcontractor that has learnt quality control, equipment management, costing and delivery can bid for the next job. That is how public expenditure becomes national capability instead of a temporary spectacle of foreign machinery and branded helmets.
BUBU should therefore measure more than how much Uganda buys. It should measure what Uganda can now make, repair, operate and improve. Every major investment should carry a skills and supplier-development plan, with targets that are assessed, audited and published. Workplace learning should also earn recognised qualifications, so that a capable technician can progress into further training and university study without starting from zero.
Parents, too, need a new question. Good grades matter, but they are not the whole story. Alongside asking a child what they scored, we should ask what they can make, who has seen them do it, and what the next level of learning should be.
The university needs a loading bay. Industry needs a classroom. Uganda needs both.

Two Chinese nationalities and Two Ugandans have been caught and taken to Police.
They're the leading thieves that have been terrorizing Kampala City and its neighboring towns.
Surprisingly their areas of residences have always been guarded by UPDF when they're well aware that to an extent of refusing Police officers to get through to make an inspection.

"Hit the target and we'll talk about your raise."
Atim sold insurance from an office in Nakasero. Her first-year target was 120 policies. She sold 151.
Her manager said, "Great work. The market is tough. Hit 160 next year and we'll talk." She sold 174.
"Let's see how the first quarter goes."
It went well. "Let's wait for the audit."
Every time, Atim went back to her desk and wrote one line in a small blue notebook.

It’s impossible to see what is happening in the US and not feel that same itch for impactful change at home. Me I’ll start small. @KiraMC1965778, first of all, your username is very unprofessional. 2nd, does Mayor Allan Bulamu have an account on here?

Mr @M_Kananura, selective enforcement against vehicles operating without number plates creates serious security loopholes. I’ll keep raising this because I was once knocked down by an unregistered vehicle and the driver simply dared me to report him wherever I wanted.

I like the confidence you speak with but betrays a lot you don't know(I am being charitable). Ucb had a sh100b ($70m) hole in its books due to bad debt. Govt replaced this with bonds to make it whole. To prevent further detoriation of loan book govt placed a moratorium.on further lending. As the dominant player by all markers except profitability ucb was a lodestone on the whole financial sector. So even if they gave it way for free - $20m, the efficiencies generated are such that, over the last 5 or so years stanbic has been paying the equivalent of $20m annually in corporate tax while lending (what banks are for)out 100x it was doing at the time of sale, the cost benefit analysis is a no brainer. If we had held on to ucb out of some misplaced nationalism not only would the bank continue to flounder but the whole financial system would have been a shambles. Imagine if you took out a check on your kasese account it may only be credited to your Kampala account in a month!!!!!
Spot on. Tibs came in singing anti-imperialist songs, ended up a Bretton Woods poster child.
UCB was sold off for peanuts to unlock a $100m World Bank credit facility. Stanbic recouped its purchase price in barely a year.
Now we’re engineering a new national bank from crumbs.

I’ve lived in Kira Municipality for over 20 years. That’s 2 thirds of my life. We are the 2nd most populous municipality in the country, oscillate between 1 and 2 when it comes to local tax collection, and yet the government-mediated social services do not reflect that.

Uganda Media Centre (UMC) executive director Allan Kasujja on why he took a 'low-pay' government job, going down with CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and why he will 'never ever' publicly disagree with him.
Kasujja also discusses his views on abductions and torture, freedom of ic League of Uganda (PLU), and Muhoozi's political endorsement.
He also explains why he thinks Ugandans lack the technical competence and ability to question and fix Uganda's economy. Why President Museveni always negotiates the best economic deals for Ugandans.
Kasujja further discusses the "extremely under-resourced" Uganda Media Centre's ambitions to become a continental leader in government communications.

Kenyans are so irritating with this “y’all do nothing”
People are doing things. They have been killed, tortured, disappeared. Dr Kizza Besigye is in prison. Meanwhile you’re saying we do nothing yet Ruto is comfortable in state house while all you have is a twitter name.

Zero fees on online transactions, free Bank 2 mobile money transfers, interest on current accounts, family banking, airport lounge access with a guest, Serena Maisha Spa privileges & a multi-currency prepaid card.
@imbankug , you have my attention. Let's talk.
